How low can you go?

I went for 3 months with my craptop...

Intel Pentium Dual Core T3200 2.0GHz

15.6" 1366×768 TN,of course.

2GB DDR2-667 RAM

3200GB 5400RPM hard drive

Intel GMA 4500MHD integrated graphics (this thing is so so soooo baaaad)  - it has 64MB RAM

Weight: 5.9 lbs
Dimensions: 15.1” (W) x 9.9” (D) x 1.5” (H)

41009.jpg

The integrated GPU is so bad...I can't even describe it.5FPS in Minecraft on the lowest settings, the same in Portal 2.Heck,I can't even play Gothic 2(released in 2003) at over 15fps.

Well shit, i think we have a winner on the low end specs front, though i do not classify INTEL GMA as a GPU, just a display adapter.

560Ti is basically a highly clocked 470, which in turn is not far off a GTX 660, where the 660=480/570.

The CPU is fine enough...it lags while playing youtube videos but who cares. When I spent 3 months only using it lagging while watching videos wasn't my main concern. It was the fucking internet.I couldn't even get 100kb/s!!!(damn 3G USB dongle thingy).Once it took me 6 hours to download a 5MB .mp3 file.(very often it didn't have a 3G connection)

What wonders me is how it's still running after 8 years.Thermals are very shitty,it idles at 85-90 celsius, but that didn't seem to influence the lifetime.Oh,and also half of the key caps have fallen off.I'm not even gonna try to describe the battery...the longest it hold me was 30 minutes.Once I drained it in 6 mins.

Yeah, my laptop is a robust winter heater, load temps are very obnoxious, with GPU in toe around 90c.

We all know how badly made games are on the PC platform, and some are truly delightful, though nothing close to a console in terms of direct to metal coding, this however will change :)

I open this thread for those who are on or own lower end systems, i will be posting video's of my own ventures into optimizing games for ridiculously low specc'd machines.

What i have to play with:

ACER 5935G Laptop.

Core 2 Duo 2.2ghz

3GB DDR3 533mhz

512mb ATi Radeon 4570m DDR2 overclocked lolz.

I will be running some of todays games on this laptop, and see if i can get a playable experience from the hardware.

OS is Windows 7 64 Bit, even though i only need 32 Bit, the extra address space and 64 Bit computing on the CPU should help in some things.

Feel free to join in, i am sure there are plenty of guys/gals here with lower end machines.

Sadly i have nothing slower than the ACER so...

Oh, that's funny. You think THAT's a low-end gaming rig? Step down.

I'll be using my beast of a 2006 MacBook, with...

2GHz C2D

GMA 950 w/64mb shared memory

2GB DDR2 RAM

OS X Lion

#GMA950FTW

Unfortunately, most Mac games are newer, so I'm stuck with old titles to begin with; anything new needs SM3 :(

I can run:

Tomb Raider Anniversary @ 5-20FPS, dipping with ANY sort of fog/dust particles

Lego Batman @ 5-10FPS, with everything disabled

Batman: Arkham Asylum @ the main menu, and no further :D the initial boot screens take 20mins each to run :(

That's about it. Of course, no modern games due to technical restraints, so I guess I win. If anyone would like to top that, I'll pull out my iMac G4 from 2001 with a GeForce 2 :P.

I was into video editing at the time I had to use it and it was summer, you know,40 celsius outside. The craptop self-shutsdown when it reaches over 110celsius,which was very very easy to reach while rendering. So I had a solution to fix that problem...I PUT IT IN THE FRIDGE!(it worked, surpiseingly)

My laptop:

How does it stack up?

Let us all consider that the laptop cost the same as the consoles, and can do a lot more, does not need a TV, and does not need KB/M, only add on is the 360 controller.

Compression kinda ruined the original look, meh looks watchable though.

I used to have a really old system with a Pentium 4 era Celeron at 2.53 GHz, 2 GB of DDR RAM, an 80 GB HDD, and some crappy graphics that I never bothered to find out about. On a 1024x768 screen, it couldn't play Minecraft on the lowest settings possible at 30 FPS, even with Optifine. It would frequently drop into the 20s.

Why is the God of Hyperdeath SO...DARN...CUTE!?

Also, if anyone has their mind corrupted by an anthropomorphic black latex bat, please let me know. I would like to join you.
