How low can you go?

We all know how badly made games are on the PC platform, and some are truly delightful, though nothing close to a console in terms of direct to metal coding, this however will change :)

I open this thread for those who are on or own lower end systems, i will be posting video's of my own ventures into optimizing games for ridiculously low specc'd machines.

What i have to play with:

ACER 5935G Laptop.

Core 2 Duo 2.2ghz

3GB DDR3 533mhz

512mb ATi Radeon 4570m DDR2 overclocked lolz.

I will be running some of todays games on this laptop, and see if i can get a playable experience from the hardware.

OS is Windows 7 64 Bit, even though i only need 32 Bit, the extra address space and 64 Bit computing on the CPU should help in some things.

Feel free to join in, i am sure there are plenty of guys/gals here with lower end machines.

Sadly i have nothing slower than the ACER so...

That is quite awesome, i am unsure if my lappy will handle BF3, testing Bioshock Infinite right now though ;)

Your GPU is CONSIDERABLY faster too.

i decided to build a gaming desktop when i gave up on playing AC4 on my laptop

i7 2630qm + gt540m (2gb dumbass edition)

AC4 on the lowest settings at 720p just couldn't go above 20fps

other games ran pretty well though, i could get good settings @720p, i didn't bother too much about playing at 30fps, i had good times

Oh yeah, SHH

I reckon it will run bioshock, BF3 i am more doubtful, though it might be ok. your CPU is way better

I find that suprising

That card can Metro 2033 at medium 35 fps. , i would have thought it could run AC4, I guess its very badly optimised for PC. Sometimes running games at higher settings they can run better

Dude run it at native res low/medium settings will look better

Yup, thats why iPhones are considered "retina" because from a standard viewing distance pixels are invisible. Also why standard def or 720p looks good on tv from 20 feet away when it looks poo on your computer

My current and lowest PC. Hmm

i3 2120

4GB Kingston Value Ram (1333MHz)

Intel DH61WW Desktop Board

Nvidia GTX 440 OC'ed to 920Mhz on the Core Clock.

This GPU can't really handle BF4 even at low settings at a classic 1280x1024 resolution

It plays BF4 at 45-55 at Operation Locker with frequent dips to 2-5 FPS. A very bad experience.

So I just settle with BF3 for now, as I would be building a new PC feat. a R9 270, that would get me by.

I have to play BF3 at the lowest settings possible and with 170+ ping. But I get nice scores, I recently went 104-48 and had 47.7k points in one round :D

Humpty Dumpty was pushed.

i think 720p isn't really bad if it's the native resolution, i played some games on my tv, sitting not so far (about 6 feet?) and it was really enjoyable

upscaled 720p on a 1080p monitor looks terrible, ALL the blur

It struggles a bit recording, due to 5900rpm HDD and CPU load.

I went for 3 months with my craptop...

Intel Pentium Dual Core T3200 2.0GHz

15.6" 1366×768 TN,of course.

2GB DDR2-667 RAM

3200GB 5400RPM hard drive

Intel GMA 4500MHD integrated graphics (this thing is so so soooo baaaad)  - it has 64MB RAM

Weight: 5.9 lbs
Dimensions: 15.1” (W) x 9.9” (D) x 1.5” (H)
Battery is very shitty.I barely get 15 mins out of it.
It idles at around 90 celsius.

41009.jpg

The integrated GPU is so bad...I can't even describe it.5FPS in Minecraft on the lowest settings, the same in Portal 2.Heck,I can't even play Gothic 2(released in 2003) at over 15fps.

i5 4670k @ 4.2GHz (Coolermaster Hyper 212 Evo); ASrock Z87 EXTREME4; 8GB Kingston HyperX Beast DDR3 RAM @ 2133MHz; Asus DirectCU GTX 560; Super Flower Golden King 550 Platinum PSU;1TB Seagate Barracuda;Corsair 200r case.
