these are not clocked as aggressively and keep a much more consistent power target for long high-load operation.

I'm starting to consider that PBO may have something to do with it.

Might try to fiddle around with BIOS settings to optimize it.

Oh trust me, I know that what I'm doing is far from ideal. If this wasn't just a random machine put together with spare parts that I only intended to use like this for a month then of course I'd get something better, ideally just a single better power supply. But what I have works perfectly fine for now.

I certainly could do that, but I'd like to get at least a couple decent, modern power supplies to have on hand anyway. The only one I've got around right now is currently being used to run a NAS that needs a replacement PSU.

It's not ideal (see @Gorgon's reply above), but it can work in a pinch. Personally I have all three power supplies connected to a power strip, and basically as soon as I turn it on the computer powers itself up.

At what point does it become raw dog Austin Evans scrapyard wars dual PSU or Linus with the Lenovo machines

Might it be my kids night light?   I'll turn that off tonight 😜

dont forget your 2 Led Porch light that pulls 5/7 watts each...that your home automation turns on at dusk and off at dawn...i have that and one of my neighbors, a penny pincher, complains that I'm wasting SOOO much energy...his lights are still incandescent lol and only turns on for when they are outside..i don't have a single incandescent light bulb in my house...its a 150 watt and 100 watt equivalent LEDS at 40% and 60% power Front/back...based on the light needed...if i had my front light maxed out it looks like the suns out.

Mum being disabled we have LEDs on 24/7 in the hallway on a dim light as she can't move around in the dark to find the light switch, that must totally be what's using all the power here.

In all seriousness though, I'm hoping the fact I haven't had to use the portable AC unit to vent the hot air from my room into the hallway will help reduce the cost compared to last year.  Used that a lot last year as it was baking in my room and freezing everywhere else.

Problem is, I still have to turn the heater on a bit. The 6 GPU's at home aren't enough to heat the house. Main heater doesn't have to run much because I have it set to 65f (18.3c). The wife would like it MUCH warmer then that though!

I honestly don't know how this works.  I added the 12700f, increased the 4090 to 100% TDP (shaving 2-3 minutes per WU off the completion time), added the Macbook Pro back and my score was lower than yesterday despite PPD predicting to be higher. 😕  I suspect it might reflect in tomorrows numbers instead, I did lose 10-15 minutes changing the 12VHPWR cable.

well the 12400 has no vcard in it is an XPS 8950 for a friends parents...jsut doing a burn in...they just needed a basic computer...so i got them a Refurb XPS for ~750 with office...i know i know the MB isn't upgradeable etc but get me a 12400 with 16GB ram 256 GB SSD, 1tb HDD(for backups), PSU, case, Wifi/BT, Windows 11 pro(I know they can do home but it came with pro again refurb)  the closest i could get was ~600 without office and windows and the thing has dual 120MM fans 1 front 1 back...

Problem is, I still have to turn the heater on a bit. The 6 GPU's at home aren't enough to heat the house. Main heater doesn't have to run much because I have it set to 65f (18.3c). The wife would like it MUCH warmer then that though!

Have the main area set to 60F, with system being it up a few degrees, guest bedroom is no heat on, and then main bedroom is set to "not shivering". My MTD tracking on the electric bill app is at $75.58 with 10 days left in billing cycle.

PPD on your computer is an estimate based on what it has been doing.  PPD on the sheet is only reflective of the last time it turned in a work unit.  As a CPU only folder, if I happen to get one that hits just after the stats for the daily pull here, that day is down about 50k and the next day is up about 50k (on average), since I'll end up with an extra work unit or two on the next day, and one less on the first day.

I realise that, but given the 4090 went from 48 mins per WU to 45mins per WU (same project) and I had also adjusted next-unit-percentage to 100%, I was just kinda surprised.  But then I did lose 15 minutes and units coming in at vastly different completion times does make it hard to guess how it will work out.

I get the feeling final credit might be calculated some time after its actually been submitted, reducing the result by a random amount.

Or just plain unpredictable:

03:48:39:WU00:FS01:Final credit estimate, 399,882.00 points = 399,909 2022-11-18 03:54:27

04:22:05:WU00:FS01:Final credit estimate, 859,609.00 points = 859,590 2022-11-18 04:24:14

04:26:47:WU01:FS01:Final credit estimate, 566,775.00 points = 566,815 2022-11-18 04:34:13

You win some, you lose some I guess.

The 3080 12GB is a really good card for me but the earliest I can get a new computer is 6 months from now...by which time even the next-gen 4000 series will be 7 months old...fish

I looked at my production graph from yesterday and felt quite disappointed to see such a large drop in points, but then I realized that I still managed to get over 7.5 million points on a slow day lol.

I've currently got 5 GPUs out of service right now, so that's why the graph dropped yesterday. This morning I've been working on getting the two Quadros ready to go again, and I'm getting Windows installed on that machine right now. Next up is getting all 3 of my RX 580s moved to a different system so I can get them back up and running. It actually got so cold in the house this morning that I needed to run my furnace for a bit. The RX 580s and the Quadros were making a good amount of the heat for my house, and with them off the temperature dropped a lot.

Also, I'll be adding another GPU later today if all goes well. I ordered a cheap RTX 2070 from eBay a while back, and it's out for delivery right now. It's a very basic blower-style card pulled from a Dell/Alienware computer, but I prefer to have a blower cooler for my purposes. Fingers crossed it won't be broken and I can add it to the mix of folding machines tonight.
