Be careful when listening.

D3AN

Recently I've noticed a ringing in my ear (more like static hissing.) It turns out to be a condition known as tinnitus, a sign of damaged hair cells in the ear. Watch those sound levels guys.

LOL.

I think he's just warning us to be careful. You can never fully regain damaged hearing.

I get ringing in my ears as well sometimes.

Someone told Luke and Linus at CES 2017 to "Unban the legend known as Jerakl" and that's about all I've got going for me. (It didn't work)

Just because your door is shut, doesn't mean they won't come in and annoy you.

Not allowed to have my PC in my room. Mom's afraid I'll spend my whole time looking at porn or some crap. I wouldn't dare soil my PCs IP with porn.

My PC is in the living room :/

I'm thinking of just moving it because she won't let me keep ANYTHING up here. Not even a small box with some wires and extra drives.

As someone mentioned, damage to the hair cells in your ears cannot be fixed. Which is why I wanted to post a friendly reminder to watch your sound levels.

SOOOOOOOOOOO MUCH LEGO.

Half my room is covered in Lego, or tables covered in half filled projects.

The other half is:

My bed

Boxes

Extra PC components

Walking space

Good advice, thanks OP.

People will say it's common sense/logic, but this actually happens to a lot of people. I know I do it sometime. Usually people will (whether they're aware or not) go for that extra loudness when:

- Having new (and good) headphone

- Hearing a song they really like

- Emotional or a long day

- Under 'influence'

Scary thing is, because our ears can adapt (until their limits of course), most of the time we don't even realize how loud we're going. For example, I hear a good song, nice sound, but can be a tad louder. So put the volume up on the amp. My ears adapt. Next song, nice, but can be a tad louder, so again put the volume up a bit on the amp, and so on. I only realized how loud I'm getting, when somebody wanna use my headphone, and they cringe and frantically looking for volume control....

Sometimes gaming audio made me do the same thing. For example, I want to hear more clearly where the footsteps are coming from, or enemies' sound, so I turn the volume up. At that point, the footsteps are clear, but the gunshots and explosions could be way out of scale. And in gaming, it's easy to go 4-5 hours straight...

One other thing, gradually deteriorating hearing can be hard/too late to detect and realized. Unlike sudden 'bangs' like the unloading of a 1911, and a flashbang going off that the guys in 1st page experienced. You can tell immediately somethings is wrong after something like that.

If you have the Xonar Essense STX you probably already lost some hearing due to the shitty ASIO drivers, I hoped WASAPI didn't do it but it did so I have to use DirectSound now in Foobar lol. Also the sound of 25kg plates hitting each other is annoying, but I don't think that would be that loud though.

Does anyone actually have a decibel meter? Apparently phones can work as well but not entirely accurate. In my room at my computer it picks up 55dB when placed on my keyboard wrist pad with just the computer on, when typing gets up to about 75dB. I'm getting 73dB when playing music at the usual volume.

Concerts are probably when you need to be the most careful. My ears never stopped ringing once I left one a few years ago. You should avoid it, but it's not as bad as you may think. When I first started suffering from tinnitus it was quite easy to panic as I couldn't sleep for about a week, the constant ringing would just keep me up. It eventually sunk in that it was never going to go away, and after 2 weeks I started to get used to it and be able to ignore it. Now I feel like its sort of similar to how your eyes constantly see your nose but your brain ignores it sort of thing. I feel like when I mostly notice it now, its when I'm actually thinking about it which isn't that common, for example while typing I'm this.

Since then I've been careful not to damage them any further, at least I know some peoples tinnitus is far worse and I can manage it how it is now. Also to the guy that asked earlier, there is no fix. You've gotta put up with it forever

Probably important to not that some tinitus is not caused by excessive SPL.

Grammar and spelling is not indicative of intelligence/knowledge.  Not having the same opinion does not always mean lack of understanding.
