[AMD] Guess what's coming soon [UPDATE]

pixeldensity

so my question is do people really need ultra powerful cpus anymore due new apis taking alot of the load off of the cpu?

I'm not trying to say that cpu vendors shouldn't keep on pushing limits but I think now they are more focused on bringing more features to cpus instead of MORE POWER MORE POWER.

Not symmetrical enough to be a successor to FX/AM3+.

Hopefully not another APU with a severely anemic CPU. Kaveri's graphics are already good enough, AMD turn your attention to your terrible CPU architecture already.

Disagree, the new api's help but..... We haven't reached a point where upgrading your CPU isn't at least worth a few FPS upgrade. I'm still down for more power. Get back to me when our only worry is the GPU.

well the guesses were correct, it is the Mullin and Beema, amd is claiming 2x more performance per watt. Sorry no FX for those who were hoping :(

Countdown timer finishes aaaaand..... we get Beema. Despite their claims of "big news", its really nothing special. It's an undervolted Kabini with an expected performance decrease, so it can be stuffed in a fablet. Was all of this really necessary AMD?

As long as it stomps on Baytrail as hard as they claim, yeah.

I wouldn't count on it. Seems like 'marketing magic' to me. I would have liked some more benchmarks, but none of the big guys have articles yet.

What happen if it's both?

Then I will be happy but not as happy. I just want a CPU with no integrated graphics from AMD. Their APU's can stay on one side and they need to re-build another side of CPU's for the high end market. At the moment they don't have much of an ecosystem as they make really good and high end GPU's bu they don't make a CPU that could pair well with these GPU's. An APU would be a terrible choice to pair off with a 270 and up, it would be like putting a 4330 with a 770 and up. It simply wouldn't work that well.

How can AMD get excited about this. It's the same sh*t they have been doing for years. "Lets push out more APU's because that is what people want." Well no AMD we want 12 core CPU's that kick ass not little APU's that perform like crap in CPU benchmarks and score like low end GPU's in gaming benchmarks. Only focusing on the low end, this upsets me greatly. I want the old AMD back.

Well, before I comment I want to see some real world load testing.  It's hard to decide if they will be any good or not when most of the tests are only at idle or full load.

Well crap, this is disappointing :( I was really hoping something that really competed with Intel's high end CPU's, instead we get something that is compared to the mobile atom CPU's? Seems AMD is going backwards instead of forwards :(

They've already said they won't fight Intel in a market they can't win. They're focusing on markets they can win until they can recoup their losses. We won't be getting a new FX chip until a year or two when AMD has a winning architecture in their sleeve.

There is no point in AMD releasing a Uber-Highend CPU on current architecture.

We all want one for sure, but it won't happen until they have a different architecture that actually competes with Intel at the Highend. If they were working on this (Uber CPU) for a release soon, we would have heard about it.

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz

It really is big news, Beema is an improved version of Kabini (not a under volted version). Keep in mind Kabini is a mobile architecture that AMD brought to the desktop with the AM1 platform. AMD was able to squeeze twice the amount of performance out of Kabini with 20% less power consumption.

leakage-GPU.jpg

leakage-CPU.jpg

market-position-Beema.jpg

That is huge news for anyone considering buying a mobile device in the next few months. As you can see by the last slide that Beema competes with Intel's flagship Haswell mobile microprocessor. Keep in mind we are comparing 15W TDP products from both companies. The Pentium 3558U is the same thing as the 3556U except it supports Quick Sync Video. We're talking CPU performance just shy that of the A8-3500M and graphics performance comparable to a HD 7470M. Mobile accounts for a huge slice of the market share, the fact AMD is making strides in it will help AMD work towards returning to a profitable company. I personally cannot wait until Beema makes it to the AM1 platform, a 15W TDP chip that's faster than the Athlon 5350? We're now talking completely fanless cooling without a hitch (you could probably cool it with a stack of pennies :)).
