Netflix is getting a price increase

It was bound to happen because of them having to pay for ISP bs. It's only 1-2 dollars though so not so bad and apparently it's so they can get new content. Idk it's not too bad now but i feel like its gonna get worse soon enough...and its not just gonna be netflix.

The Verge article: http://www.theverge.com/2014/4/21/5637248/netflix-will-raise-subscription-prices-new-members

http://gizmodo.com/netflix-is-going-to-raise-prices-for-new-users-1565717395?utm_campaign=socialflow_gizmodo_facebook&utm_source=gizmodo_facebook&utm_medium=socialflow

So new subscribers will have to pay the...let's just say $10 a month subscription fee, while current subscribers can stick with the $8 for a little while longer, although they will eventually have to start paying the $10 a month.

*I'm just saying $10 to make it easier for discussion. Netflix said that the price hike will be by a Dollar or two.

I'm disappointed to see that Netflix is raising their prices, but it really doesn't surprise me. It was bound to happen eventually. Either way, Netflix has a very large catalog of movies and shows and whatnot to watch, and if you use their service regularly, the $10 a month will be justifiable.

What are your thoughts on Netflix increasing their subscription price?

EDIT: The price hike is expected to happen later this quarter.

Netflix needs much more content.

This  I agree with, I love nexflix and use it on a daily basis but a lot of the older movies and shows I watched when I was a kid are only available on the DVD package and well since DVD is becoming more and more extinct each day, streaming is were Netflix really needs to put their time and effert into their company if they are going to kick up the pricing.

Just remember people, you might think "Oh it's only 1-2 dollars, I don't really care", but the truth is that propably most of that money (which adds up) is going to the ISP's (which you are already paying for).

The confirmation of more expensive access came as part of Netflix's Q1 2014 financial results, in which it also announced plans to increase support for TiVo boxes and Amazon's Fire TV.

The price change will amount to "a one or two dollar increase" and begin the change later in the current quarter. Those already subscribing "would stay at current pricing (e.g. $7.99 in the US) for a generous time period," according to Netflix.

So new subscribers will have to pay the...let's just say $10 a month subscription fee, while current subscribers can stick with the $8 for a little while longer, although they will eventually have to start paying the $10 a month.

Great so in the end Netflix gave the fuck up and transferred the debt they have to (basically illegally) pay to Comcast and other ISPs to the end users. I predict a bunch of Logan facepalms later this week in the tek

I don't mind paying an extra $2. I get all the content I want when I want. Much better than paying $30 for cable

Read my previous post: there's much broader implications if you take into account Netflix recent deal with Comcast: They basically destroyed net neutrality and said if an ISP arbitrarily decides "Fuck you, we don't want to honor the legally binding contract you signed with us, you should pay us MORE if you actually intent to use all the bandwidth you're paying for" then they can strong arm people like Netflix and choke their fucking connections until they increase their prices and can't be competitive. In other words smaller companies will basically have 0 margins if they not only have to get fucking robbed by the content creators but also the internet distributors.
