ASUS Demonstrates New ROG 290X and 780Ti Matrix Feature: Memory Defroster For Extreme Overclocking

KakaoDj

Lol why does it come with fans, the users of such a card will remove the cooler immediately.

Wait, as it defrosts, doesn't it melt and change into water? Doesn't water short any of the circuits?

No, LN2 is naturally liquid (Liquid nitrogen) as the temperature increases it evaporates into a gas. Not all liquids short out circuits and liquid nitrogen can't turn into water as it's nitrogen

Its not nitrogen thats formed in the back of the card... its water. but still non conductive water since its pure water molecules without anything else. nitrogen can not be solid in room temperatures... it barely manages to be liquid and quickly evaporates...

in otherwords  the dark side of the moon (which is a very cold place not even robots can survive it :P ) is like room temperature for nitrogen...  northpole is like a very very hot place.. and our house rooms are like the hell for nitrogen :P it acutally boils :)

Not nescessarily, it is still a gaming card for enthusiasts.

I agree partly, however I would argue that any 780Ti/290X is a card for gaming enthusiasts.

True, i would not buy this, solely because of how wierd it looks. But if i got into LN2 overclocking, this feature is a selling point to me. But i would still go for Galaxy

How about instead of putting in features that only .01% of the community will use and doing it for only headlines. They focus on things that matter like a better cooler

You understand that these features are put onto the Matrix cards for a reason right?

The Matrix line isn't exactly the mainstream product. 290X and 780ti are pretty niche on their own.

it's not water, how do you expect to form water from nitrogen?

If you get something cold in ambient environment below the dew/bulb point of water at that pressure, water vapor will condense on the cold surface and form droplets- basic science.

Didn't you read the OP?

I don't think that was there when I posted

Talking to sub zero overclockers in the past, i m pretty sure most of them just cover the whole PCB in Vaseline too stop any moisture Or spills from the nitrogen. Would this not make this feature a little redundant? I don't except any air coolers getting ice build up xD

Insulation still won't stop cold bugs, it varies a lot on the memory type that dictates what temp the bugs start. So this may likely help increase the memory temperatures and hence reduce cold bugs happening. So if anything, this will be hand in hand with insulation.

What is the point in defrosting the memory?

If i am correct, the memory has a greater chance of physical damage and failure if frozen thus completely ruining the card. That's why it's being warmed while the cpu is not

someone correct me if I'm wrong.

LOL at people complaining about how this card has useless features for consumers.

Its a speciality feature on a speciality card that is already geared towards hardcore enthusiasts.

No one forced you to buy a Matrix card...

I can get you that only 3-4 of these cards will actually use this feature

In that case, the memory defroster makes the vaseline reduntant

Actually in most cases you insulate back of your card when you cool it with LN2, so...
