Should I use windows 11 or Linux

This question is like asking what should you wear today. It depends. Each has its own pros and cons, what are you trying to achieve?

Windows 11 is not compatible with your system. If Windows 10 isn't an option, then I guess the decision is made! Enjoy Linux.

Yes. The actual system requirements are not as strict as they were originally thought to be, and you can do a clean installation on an older, "unsupported" CPU without issue.

I see questions like this and this is exactly what I think to myself. I guess some people jump into "use x" answers but I think I see it like you do and just can't get past how the question as asked doesn't actually make any sense. This happens a lot.

it really depends on what you want to do. if you want to game mostly go for windows. If you work more (documents and all sorts of office tasks), linux should be fine but I need to warn you that it might be hard to learn and get used to as it is more or less a finicky os made for more advanced users depending on which "flavor" you pick.

Because that's not an issue with Linux? Seems like if you have an older CPU like this, you're in the wild west no matter what.

I mean Ubuntu supports their non-LTS releases for a whopping 9 months, so... yeah.

Not always an option if you want to stay up to date with the latest and greatest software support, which may be relevant for gaming support and likes.

Go with Linux for now and see how it works out. You will have a bumpy experience at first, especially with that Nvidia graphics card, but you will learn a lot. It's like living in the wild west. You have so much freedom with what you're allowed to do with the software, you'll have to use your critical thinking skills a lot, you'll have to sometimes just accept that there's no good solution to some things, and you'll have to deal with all the issues that come with using a non-mainstream solution. The price of freedom is effort.

You can't if you want long term support. Upgrading means either upgrading to an intermediate release which only has 9 month support or wait 2 years for the next LTS version.

If you are not familiar with command line then I would suggest start with windows and use WSL(windows subsystem for Linux), most of Linux distro has fully functional GUI but sometime something would still break and most of time it would require terminal to fix it.

the problem with linux goes much deeper... undervolting gpu? uh-huh...

setting custom fan curves (not in bios)? omg you basically have write the entire history of the universe (almost) ... and then it "may not even work"...

gpu support,  dx11, dx12... etc etc,  "good" creativity programs? well, they probably exist but it's not a super popular platform for that...

Even saying "fuck Nvidia" might not be super appropriate,  because you know what, there maybe is a reason companies dont want to support something like linux, especially for average joe kinda mainstream people? and that's professionalism,  as long linux doesn't have a unified fully functional (and hopefully fully customizable) Graphical User Interface it will always be niche and kinda the black sheep, its just how it is.

Steam keeps trying,  but idk if even they truly believe in it,  but its still linux best bet to ever become mainstream.

You know who also says linux sucks for desktop? Linus Torvalds,  and the dude knows his stuff lol.

Don't take it personal or anything,  just my thoughts when i hear someone talking about a GUI and Linux... its not really a thing, and not really wanted, its just kinda there to say "we have that too".

The mistake linux makes is it tries to be different for the sake of it, but not better.  it should be better, more easily accessible and more 'modern' than windows,  and it fails completely at that.

As for OP: why is 10 not an option? i vote for 10 lesser of all evil imo.

I’m not sure how you get all this just from my simple comment and why you’re defensive when someone mention Linux.

One thing is certain, you need help. Read from your words I could sense you have a strong frustration for your life, I think you need someone to talk about your suffering, maybe a therapist would help.

Good luck and wish you well.

If the premise is "be <any comparative> than Windows", it already failed. The goal should not be to be "not Windows".
