I have the option to get a 6900xt(yes, I mean 6900xt) or a 3080 for the same exact price in Canadian Dollars. What should I get?

6900XT for sure. RT is still in the tech demo phase, it's fast enough to not need DLSS, and it's got 60% more VRAM, so in two years, you won't be hitting the wall on texture details because you have less VRAM than a 3060. For example, Far Cry 6 uses almost 12GB of VRAM with the HD textures set to max.

gaming with features it's Nvidia cards.

AMD cards is quite good for "raw" performance without any changes, at least AMD has their fidelityFX that anyone can use.

But for that price, wouldn't it be more towards 3090 or 3080ti?

also for longer use, the VRAM (GB on the card) can be sometimes a bit low on the higher end cards. so just make sure you know what you want, also that GB is not everything either.

For me, it's a simple flow chart:

Will I use Raytracing a lot? 3080

Will I use CUDA a lot? 3080

Will I use ML, Tensor, or AI a lot? 3080

If none of the above is true, 6900 XT (especially if you need lots of VRAM).

6900XT.  Screw Nvidia.  I'm tired of their business model, and they decided lack of anything resembling customer appreciation.

It's no longer about best deal or best card for me.

If you care about the following the 3080:

- Better RT

- Nvenc

- DLSS

- Cuda

If you care about this get 6900 XT:

- Best performance

- Most VRAM

- Better Linux support

Also screw Nvidia, they threat to stop supplying their chips to 3rd party manufacturers if they don't give AMD and Intel a worse cooler than Nvidia. Also they stop making specific GPU's so prices will stay high. Source 1      Source 2

both are the same sources

and MLID is more rumour/conspiracy nut than reliable info

as for OP's original question, if you need Nvidia specific features, just go with nvidia

if you literally just play games and dont even record gameplays, get the AMD card

even if AMD have the same feature as nvidia, the AMD version is not as good and is buggy from my experiences with both

-sigh- feeling like I'm being too negative lately

RT isn't worth it, DLSS is, but personal perference.

If you are not playing on 4k then the 6900xt is alot faster

I just RMA'D my msi 6900xt due to crazy heat and tons of other problems.

They gave me a choice and I'm going back Nvidia.

I pick up an EVGA FTW3 3080 ti Tuesday or Wednesday.

I left them because I was sick of their shitty drivers and memory weirdness.  My last was an Asus 4890, and the same complaints are still out there all these years later. Kinda rootin for Intel to make a good GPU, but I have my doubts.. but never say never.
