Best antivirus?

brownninja97

A combo of Microsoft Security Essentials and NoScript for my browser.

Hah, exactly what I do.  Though I'm questioning whether I should go for something else as a free option after reading a couple articles a friend of mine sent me.  I remember back in the XP days(while avoiding vista) nod32's free offering was pretty good(in my opinion).

Articles I speak of:

You don't have a virus.

You have malware infections.

Uninstall any anti virus.

Install Malwarebytes and run it.

Run ADWCleaner

Run Combofix

Run Hitman Pro

Knowledge.

Stop being an idiot online and you wont get viruses.

Pretty much these. Also, an Anti-Malware and an Anti-Virus are two different things. You need an Anti-Malware, and basically ttam listed most of the good ones.

I'd say avast :) it has a built in browser clean-up which should get rid of that adware for you (worked for me recently when I used the internet in India... yeah that shits messed up) and possibly fix your computer. If avast doesn't work, use malwarebytes because after all it might just be malware in your PC :)

Avast, mateys.

Avast has a poor definition database. Way too many false positives, and when I say way to many, I mean...

WAY TOO MANY!

Tho it is still a decent antivirus for free. It will help keep you safe since it goes off the wall even for running notepad (sarcasm).

I've never had a problem with false positives... And on my grandma's computer it's set to the equivalent of hardass...

If you're only surfing the web then I wouldn't expect much from it. Tho if you're use to working with a lot of custom made software (private development), it's one headache after another. So really it depends on what you do on a day to day basis. Personally a lifetime Malwarebyte's Pro license is the best route. It's not free, tho it still lasts forever after a small one time payment.

Haven't had a problem, to be completely honest.

But I do have Malwarebytes Pro in case shit hits the fan. :D
