Stop using Chrome!

Ikik. Half the world is gonna be mad at me now but i think this is something people still dont understand.

Reasons to not use Chrome:

1. Privacy (not anonyminity). Your data is valuable and every website you visit and google itself profit from your private data while you are Browsing the web

2. No built in Ad blockers

3. Very little security compared to other browsers

4. Speed. Chrome ends up after Vivaldi, Opera and Brave (and Firefox? Dunno rn)

Alternative to use is Brave with the DuckDuckGo Search Engine.

Reasons to use:

1. No data is getting sent to brave or duckduckgo as a company.

2. Fingerprinting, tracking, ad blockers etc BUILT IN the browser with no maybe even shady add ons

3. Speed. Brave is up there and going like a V8.

4. Chromium based -> extensions still work, similar layout and settings

5. Sleeker design. Brave feature some very easthetically pleasing "New Tab" Pages

6. Built in Crypto Wallets

7. Earn the crypto Currency "BAT" while browsing through voluntarely and purposely replacing blocked ads with brave ads

(8. For all you Krunker Fans out there: you get better FPS if youre still a casual browser enjoyer like me sometimes)

You could argue about Firefox, opera and what not but brave really does have that built in feature set that basically no other browser offers.

Ping me or quote me in replys ples. Anyone talking about AiOs and trashing people for a front mount watch THIS JAYZTWOCENTS VID because u 99.9% skipped or didnt understand the Gamers Nexus vid...

I was going to wait to touch on the rest of that until I got the "The phone doesn't track me".

You might find this interesting though. Basically, you turn ads on and earn "Brave Tokens" which are a "crypto currency". By default, once a month your amassed tokens go to sites you view. Unless you manually change settings.

But this is less shady than Chrome.

It's pretty funny to me that you criticize Chrome for making money off of personalized ads and data, but isn't Brave free too? How do you think they're making their money? Are they just a completely benevolent charity organization? The whole "if it's free you're the product" slogan has been massively overused, but that's still pretty much the tradeoff.

Main PC:

AMD Ryzen 7 5800X • Noctua NH-D15 • MSI MAG B550 Tomahawk • 2x8GB G.skill Trident Z Neo 3600MHz CL16 • MSI VENTUS 3X GeForce RTX 3070 OC • Samsung 970 Evo 1TB • Samsung 860 Evo 1TB • Cosair iCUE 465X RGB • Corsair RMx 750W (White)

Peripherals/Other:

ASUS VG27AQ • G PRO K/DA • G502 Hero K/DA • G733 K/DA • G840 K/DA • Oculus Quest 2 • Nintendo Switch (Rev. 2)

Laptop (Dell XPS 13):

Intel Core i7-1195G7 • Intel Iris Xe Graphics • 16GB LPDDR4x 4267MHz • 512GB M.2 PCIe NVMe SSD • 13.4" OLED 3.5K InfinityEdge Display (3456x2160, 400nit, touch).

Got any questions about my system or peripherals? Feel free to tag me (@bellabichon) and I'll be happy to give you my two cents.

If you want privacy, you can find it in the dictionary under P.

So what data is Brave collecting? No sane company is going to pay for marketing on a platform that isn't capable of delivering target demographic ads. So you either have a company that is going to be dead once their VC money is up or they're not telling you the full story of what they're collecting.

Personally I am going to stick with the devil I know.

I dont like to admit it but i am aware of that but as of rn there is no comfortable way of getting around it. I am already dual booting win 10 and linuxmint. Using rarely any google product other than yt and my phone but even that i use less often. Ofc i turn GPS off. Messager apps are viable for staying in contact with me and my friends. So whats weird to me is that i know i can do something against it and just do it yk. But From what i have seen ya all dont care about it and thats fine. I jsut find it... concerning... that nobody gives a f about their data

I just want to know what's so bad about them collecting my data before I jump on the hate bandwagon, so if you could educate me, that would be great

I did some asking around because I was contemplating on buying a quest 2, but so far I don't see anything alarming about data collection

Maybe I just don't value what I didn't care about as much as some of y'all...?

Most of that data can be farmed via other means. Just ditching Chrome itself wont stop it and will barely put a dent in it. There are Network Devices that collect more data than chrome, many use google as a middle man.

2. No built in Ad blockers

Extensions are a thing. I would rather a well supported Adblock that I can fine tune, than rely on a Browser company to develop one in house that may break entire websites.

3. Very little security compared to other browsers

Actually in browser Securiy, Chrome is leading the way for other browsers. Without chrome we may not even have in-browser containers and process isolation. Not to mention that most browsers are built on Chromium which Chrome updates trickle down to.

14 hours ago, rafe_28 said:

With Security comes Performance hits. All browsers have been degrading in performance over the years in favor of security and features, regardless of what benchmarks say.

As for Brave, they are just a shady company in general. They also do collect user data if you opt into the "Rewards" System.

If you want a real reason to not use Chrome and Chromium Based Browsers, they have largely taken over the browser market paving the way to basically set there own Web Standards. This gives Google the opportunity to basically push any non chromium based browser out of the browser market. Given that most browsers are built on chromium, that basically just leaves Safari (WebKit) and Firefox (Gecko)

Personally I use Firefox, but not for Privacy reasons. I use Firefox for the simple fact that its basically all I have ever used and it does what I want it to do.

Unless you care about Googles Web Takeover, just use whatever browser you feel comfortable with, just avoid shady ones you have never heard of.

I wouldn't trust Brave because of those two reasons, if you're getting crypto for "free" then they're probably tracking and selling your information even more than Chrome.

But i'll stick to Firefox, i've been using it for years and it tracks me less than Chrome does, also competition is nice even though Google has a monopoly with Chrome.

Out of those I'm only using email service, win 10 ,with lots of stuff disabled,  but it still sends stuff to Billy regularly  - i suppose... err, wasn't there a thing that you can just block the Microsoft servers in your router though (that shit is too complicated for me, I can't even block msi control center lol)

Android and youtube...

I mean what kinda annoys me is that I have to have a google account when i want to use youtube anyway,  otherwise there would be zero reason to have one on my pc, and I would probably still use chrome,  it's just the most painles / fastest browser, with an UI that makes the most sense...

I did like Edge before it got chromified,  I still have it installed (the old non chrome one) but most websites don't work with it anymore,  not even mega which was what I used Edge specifically for...

So yeah,  I'm stuck with chrome,  and like everyone else with google especially on Android.  🤷‍♀️

You dont HAVE TO do it. Its something what you do if you WANT to get some crypto and since someone doesnt care about watching ads why not get something back?

The point is i don't want ads,  and i don't want crypto in my browser so why support someone who promotes this?

Google promotes ads too, but not as prominently and also i can just turn them off.

You can do that with chrome too?

The major point is the google product. The search engine has very little impact on tracker blocking etc
