Windows Updates KB5000802 and KB5000808 are causing BSOD

TubsAlwaysWins

OKI printers are getting hit by this. I told everyone over teams how to uninstall and it’s been fine since, looks like the patch (optional.. why?!) is out now though so an annoyance overall but nothing too bad.

Not the first time, they did this last year as well (think it was last year). Security update broke something on our servers, XML parser or something like that and the fix was optional and our rules at the time only approved critical and security. Thanks Microsoft.

To give some context: Microsoft's release schedule is very rigid, and internally, there's no real way to push out a mandatory update outside of the release window (I have patch-Tuesday marked on my calendar). Out-of-Band updates are the best thing they can do to get the patch out there for people who need it. More than likely, the fix will be included in the following rollup (Haven't checked the first April patch to see if this happened or not). They can't just push new mandatory patches out randomly. That would be a nightmare on all fronts.

The fix was delivered in the standard patch Tuesday release, it was not an out of schedule release as far as I remember. It was optional because it didn't affect everyone, but the other update still broke it 100% of the time but not many things actually use it. That's why it was optional which I disagree with as anything that gets broken should be fixed regardless.

This was 2008 R2, before the full only rollup scheme releases for that OS was achieved. There were still updates outside those monthly rollup ones.

Got it 2 days ago on my home PC, I don't print so 🤷‍♂️

How do you print return labels for Amazon when your new "audio decoder" sounds like a fish ate it? 🐟
