I hate Amazon because of the way they treat their workers (They put them on zero hours contracts) and how they are trying to monopolize every industry and how their own products are very cheaply made. I wondered what peoples general opinion on this subject is

I can not comment on how they treat their workers as I have no first hand knowledge nor do I know anyone that has worked for them.

Are they monopolizing, yeah to a point. Are their own products cheaply made? Yes, but show me where a cheap product is made at the expense of a company.

 

The only way to truly stop certain things and make a company change direction is to either scream racism and/or sexism (unless they are democrats), or stop buying/using them.

 

The most effective way to make a company change direction is if enough people boycott at the same time and for an extended period of time.

Instructions for frustration management:  

1) Sit at desk.   2) Repeatedly slam forehead against desk.

 

I never said I was smart, just smart enough to be dangerous.

I think it depends on the warehouse and how they're run independently.

 

I've heard some nightmarish stories about people working in literal cages but these seem to be rumor-based and gossip-like.

I've also heard Amazon is a great option for new immigrants to America.

People tend to spread fear hyperbolically, subconsciously and misanthrope-like - everyone's a cynic. So when they feel the need to 'get back at the system' for treating people 'badly' when they've never witnessed it, it tends to come out like this. 

 

You always always have to put yourself in someone elses' shoes.

Amazon workers, (atleast from the ones I have talked to) are really a toss up, some despise their job others love it.

I live in the seattle area and theres a huge divide between people who love amazon and others who believe they ruined the city.

Im honestly kind of in the middle of all of it.

The products they make suck,customer support is bad when it comes to disputes with third party vendors (I had to threaten the vendor with legal action and write it with a lot of legalese in order for them to refund me the money,Amazon only asked them what's going on and acted like a neutral party in peace talks)

But they have cheap prices,I got myself a B450 Gaming X for $70!

It's not just in China...

I saw a documentary on how they abuse their workers in the United Kingdom and treat them like machines.

They require them to go to work even if they are sick!,They have a timer activated for each action of a worker,and if they are not very fast it will appear in their performance report and may get them fired.

They workers that fetch thing into the cart for shipping don't get chairs to sit and rest,and they walk all day!

And all of that is happening in the UK!

Did you read the articles? A lot of it is a little ridiculous.

  • First one simply states that Amazon is destroying small business. As people move online, that's inevitable.
  • Second article has many points.
    One, that employees get reprimanded for hand washing. How long are you taking that it's an issue? Don't touch your face. Problem solved.
    One person died at a warehouse, and others sued for unsafe work conditions. Not really the companies issue.
    Other people have tested positive at warehouses; again, not the companies fault.
  • Third didn't really state much. They said how Amazon has almost 20,000 positive COVID cases. Sure, but that's not bad considering they employ over 1 mil people.
  • Fourth was about employees being fired for discussing internal matters. That's the only one that might hold some kind of validity, but it's also not rare in the corporate world.
  • Last one said workers are complaining that they're being told to work faster. 600 people signed a petition. Ok, sure. Out of over 1 million people, 600 signed a letter complaining. Guess what? They'll be replaced by people who don't mind, and can do the job. They clearly just can't handle it, and that's something you'll find within any company.

A lot of the complaints against Amazon are, frankly, just people bitching, or those who aren't willing to work hard. They'll just be replaced by those that are willing. If people are looking for a ton of money for working a job that, realistically, isn't that hard and doesn't require that much training, then they're out to lunch.

Well I wish that the workers in China were paid more but there currently is no tech company who pays the people who make tech products well, if there was I would shop there.
