So I’m going to microcenter today to flash my pc’s bios and was wondering which is more convenient for the employees at microcenter, if I bring my built pc with everything, or if I bring the parts?

I recommend bringing the whole computer. It makes it easier and You will now it is working before leaving. Is easier to do it yourself but If you are scared I understand

why don't you flash it yourself? it's easy if you follow the steps correctly.

anyway, you should just bring the box, they have everything else needed.

There’s no way to contact them via calling  because of Covid-19. All they say is to go to Microcenter or got to the Microcenter community forums which I tried using but no one answered.

It might be easier to order a Ryzen 3 1200 off Amazon, flash your BIOS, and then return the chip during during the 30 day guarantee.

Maybe they're call center is closed? Strange though you should be able to call your local Microcenter store. I'd imagine contact via phone would be more important with Covid being a thing right now...

I don't know... it makes perfect sense to me. The COVID-19 pandemic has caused all sorts of issues for retail stores. Changes in hours, changes in operating procedures, inventory shortages (especially the PC industry, where most components are manufactured/imported overseas) and fewer employees as some of them are worried for their health or have to stay home to take care of their children that were off school during the pandemic. There are only a finite amount of phones and you can bet that everyone and their mother are calling in to ask questions like "Are you guys open?". "Can I still shop in-store during this pandemic?" "What are you doing to keep us safe?" and the legendary "When will you be getting this back in stock?!". Factor in Micro Centers fewer locations, the increased number of customers working from home that need office supplies & equipment, coupled with their lower prices on average, you have a recipe for a very busy store.

 

You also can't have dedicated employees answering a dozen phone lines at once when you have all hands on deck assisting customers in-store, making sure they are all practicing social distancing and escorting them through the store to keep things moving. When I was last at my local Micro Center store, the general manager of the store himself was out and about helping customers on a personal level as if he were a normal sales rep. Unfortunately in situations like this, you have to prioritize the customers that are already in-store and hope that you have enough time to assist whomever you can over the phone when things die down.

Bring it in assembled. They are simply going to grab a CPU designed to work with your board, slot it in, hold a chunk of metal on it while it flashes then swap your processor back in. This will be far more convenient for both you and the store, as they won't have to source other components like RAM or a GPU and you don't have to disassemble/reassemble your rig.

That's not ethical though. Plus you need to pay shipping back for the return if it's not defective. If you decide to say it's not working properly to get the free shipping back, they test it and will ding your account for doing so. Rack up enough bad returns and they straight up ban your address from the platform permanently.

There may also be other complications as various stores have various Covid policies in place.  An informational phone call May help a lot.  They might even be closed or operating only by appointment or some such.  Best to get deets.  If the phone system isn’t working there may be email or IM or something available.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

Unfortunately in situations like this, you have to prioritize the customers that are already in-store and hope that you have enough time to assist whomever you can over the phone when things die down.

While you're right, I highly doubt their phones would be that busy. You can also simply have a prerecorded message saying no stock checks or COVID information will be done over the phone. Simply saying "we'd get too many calls" is a very lazy way to handle something like this, when really, phone calls are infinitely better than having someone come into the store to ask the same question.
