Need to upgrade now, but want Ryzen 4000

Hi a little bit of background, my 4770k is showing it's age. I can't multitask as much without getting a performance hit on gaming. I use it for work also but its also showing signs of lag at that point also.

I have budget for a 3950x and a premium x570 board but i feel like when Ryzen 4000 comes around, i would wan't to switch to that.

So, currently i am planning to buy a ROG VIII hero board then a 3xxx processor. I will probably sell that 3xxx processor at that time (6 months from now), which 3xxx should i go for or should i approach this on another way?

Hello,

The 3300x should be cheap and very good until then.

Personally I'd just hang on as you will always lose money on resale. If you want to buy now, probably just get a 3300X (if its for gaming) and the X570

When my old rig broke in early 2018 I didn’t have the cash for a new PC so went near 9 months without one until I could afford it.

That was over the summer so I just got by gaming on other devices (an old wii, Apple TV etc) until I could afford the new PC I wanted.

By that time CoffeeLake had come out and matured a little so I could get it at decent prices and with good avilability.

I don't get why would someone buy a 3100 or 3300X in his use case, you will have super small improvement over the 4770k, especially since his problem seems to be a lack of core count.

If you don't want to wait get (at least) a 3700X, it just got a price cut to counter Intel 10th gen release and it will compensate your need for multitasking.

Oc it? A lot of people recommend the 3100 or 3300x but both aren't that much better than a 4770k (basically just a 6700k and 7700k performance) so if you can oc your i7 and hold out a bit longer.

But that doesn't solve the issue they now have with the 4770k not being enough. That just moves the problem to another platform and increases the money spent.

I'm not disagree I was trying to explain maybe the idea.

its maybe 20-30$ wasted assuming it gets sold but I agree it isn't an upgrade

It's already o'ced to 4.5, sadly i see 60%-70% on my CPU on my normal daily usage, that's just gaming and also working from time to time. The performance hit is noticeable to the point that it's really hampering me so i want to move to a new processor as soon as i can

Wait a bit it's really not worth moving to a 3300x

The ipc improvement while still a thing

It's not as much as you would think

If you want you can get the 3950x as it won't be outclassed by alot of things and waiting for the better upgrade won't be beneficial if you really really need an upgrade
