Someone help me identify these

These are from a old computer I took apart. These were connected to the dvd/cd reader.

Top is Molex, old predecessor to Sata power. Bottom is IDE, predecessor to sata data.

I can understand IDE as thats truly been dead for years. But the fact that molex is still haunting us with cheaper fan hubs and RGB sets and its odd that isn't something they teach in first class of "how to build PC".

It's a pretty high current connector, prefer it over the SATA crap we have to put up with now.

I agree that they should atleast teach what molex is but at the same time I kind of see no point to it  

I mean even cheap Chinese fans now come pwm powered and if your building a PC I would assume that even after the build you would be eager to learn more (atleast that's how I began 3 years ago )

I mean IDE seems way more fragile than a cheap SATA power/ data connector

IDE is bombproof, once it's in, it's in. SATA is just flimsy and floppy, and caused me no end of trouble with nothing fitting a mainboard I had. They always came loose.

I mean I know what IDE is but I never dealt with it I guess it is a better connector lol

I've never worked with IDE but I have had sata drives destroy their connectors before

The connector was more robust. But the cable was a pain in the butt to cable manage. My backup system still has an IDE DVD writer. And I have a couple of spare IDE HDDs just sitting around at the moment.

Yea I can see those cables being a pain to work with  I mean holy there are alot of cables for IDE maybe that's why it can run alot of current / power

Not really. Power was still needed in the form of Molex much like how SATA has separate power and data cables.

My time with IDE was when I would buy a prebuilt, slap a GPU in it and call it my custom gaming rig.

Actually it was simpler back then. You didn't have PCI-e power. If a card needed additional power, it came in the form of Molex, the same connector your Disk and Hard Drives used. The CPU didn't require it's own power, it was powered from the 20 pin (since replaced by 24 pin) on the motherboard. The only other connector was the Floppy Drive power connector. 

 

Notice the lack of a 4 or 8 pin CPU power on this Pentium 3 board? 

 

Example of a GPU using Molex for external power:

 

Some more trivia, this card uses AGP ( Accelerated Graphics Port) which was a connector reserved for GPUs as the name would suggest. This was the predecessor of PCIe.

no there aren't the number has grown cus of RGB

Ohhhh yea right I remember 

Molex was used for gpus and I think if you used more than one on the same rail the PSU would just die because there weren't high wattage PSUs like today

Plus many PSUs people back in those days used were cheapy made with counterfeit capacitors. Boards too in a matter of fact. So many boards and GPUs with bulging or leaking capacitors.
