Google will force advertisers to prove they are who they say they are

Google will require all advertisers to confirm their legal identity in an effort to increase transparency. Since 2018, political advertisers have had to verify who they are, so this is an expansion of that measure.

Good. Hopefully this minimizes the amount of scam ads we see - even on reputable sites.

When the requirements come into place in their locales, existing advertisers will have 30 days to submit documents or Google won't display their ads. They'll need to send business incorporation paperwork, personal ID or other documentation. Starting this summer, you'll be able to see a verified advertiser's legal name and country of operation via a context menu in ads.

Summer is right around the corner, so this will happen very soon. Makes me wonder how many ads we won't see anymore.

 

Admittedly, I use Adblock Plus everywhere (except here). I don't see ads, so this won't really affect me. But for the average user, this should be good. Hell, maybe it will reduce the amount of malware infested ads as well.

Here's a prediction, it won't do a thing. In the world of drop shipping, ghost kitchens, crowd funding, black hatting, and so on it takes a week or two for people to find loopholes and roundabout ways to maximize quick profits.

It looks like google might be starting to feel the pinch of ad blockers as people get tired of dodgy ads and malware.  At first it wasn't really a problem, but now even repair shops and IT consultants are recommending adblockers to help avoid this.  You know it's bad when the local repair shop tells you to do something that reduces legitimate sales potential.

Grammar and spelling is not indicative of intelligence/knowledge.  Not having the same opinion does not always mean lack of understanding.

This is cool, but it won't stop me from using adblock, the reputation of ads is beyond saving at this point. And many sites that I do visit have things like sponsored content that isn't blocked by software. I can live with that because they're less intrusive and also not malware.

about time advertisers had some sort of roadblock (hopefully its a start of something more to come) on them to show ads. They moan and complain and force us to watch intrusive videos and pin-holed youtube to bow down but none of the advertisers have ever been in check.

 

Maybe this will no longer be the normal ads on the youtube app.

I would like them to do this for Youtube copyright strikes. It's ridiculous, I have seen an artist have their own music get claimed by some random person.
