LTT Folding Team's Emergency Response to Covid-19

Go to solution Solved by GOTSpectrum,

This event has ended and I recommend you guys head over to the Folding Community Board for any general folding conversation.

Does anyone know what the problem with the servers 155.247.164.213 and 155.247.164.214 is?
Noticed that it only tried to connect to port 8080, and never tried 80 (Mine always fails 8080 and hits 80), are there any way i can maybe force it to try 80 instead?
Those WU's not getting delivered annoys me.

Anyone know when the Folding@Home stats page updates? It's really far behind compared to the webcontrol panel.

It will update when it updates. They are still having server issues and put getting work and collection servers stable above stats server. Which is a decision I agree with.

Sadly I spent all afternoon playing DOOM Eternal, sadly despite running at nearl 100fps, it got some nasty stuttering while folding. So I'm missing most of a day's points haha.

Now of course I'm lacking GPU work units on the Titans. Feed me, and give me badges!

Hmm. Personally I am not sure. At this point just let it fold as is. Highest stable core overclock I believe is the best thing. I would assume a mining bios dials the core back a bit and ups the memory? But I am not actually sure at all if that is true.

Hey @GOTSpectrum I've been considering getting a second GPU for ages now, for extra monitors, 3D loads, and PhysX.

Although I've been debating between a 2060 Super or 2070 Super; got any idea the performance difference in CUDA folding between the two considering the €120 difference?

I'd get a 2060 myself, I'm currently on the lookout for another.

Also btw everyone I'm just on my way to the meeting so won't be around for a while.

As far as I know, mining BIOS meddles with voltage and power tables, and sometimes those BIOS-es are not really stable for gaming nor for full compute loads. I'd recommend you flash to original one before you start folding. However, I have had one RX 580 8 GB with mining BIOS which did a few WUs before I reverted to original one. But I do not remember if there was a difference in PPD.

For gaming, don’t get a second GPU. If anything offloading physics to it from your Titan will just hurt FPS as they 2060 wont even keep up, at least this was how it worked a few years ago. It was always recommended to just use your heavy lifter GPU to not cause bottlenecks. PhysX isn’t very intensive, but for a titan V.  And define “3D loads”, what can a 2060 do that a V can’t..?

For gaming it makes no sense, for folding, sure! Plenty of google results out there that detail the PPD for every GPU :)

Anyone else seeing a major drop in Points Per Day after installing the latest Nvidia driver?  A few days ago I was hitting 900k+ PPD regularly, now it's barely 600-700k.  Just installed 442.74 today and noticed the difference.  May just be the WUs I've been getting today but it seems odd that it only happened on the same day I update my drivers.

QUOTE ME IN A REPLY SO I CAN SEE THE NOTIFICATION!

I guess it's as good of time as any to get into these forums finally and get grinding those WU's. Hopefully the server starts spitting more out soon I have a bunch of machines ready to party.

I have seen 500k swings just based on WU’s. My 2080 gets from 1.3-1.8m depending on WU. Just my experience tho.

No difference here, and yes it can vary a lot depending on WU. 1.9MPPD on the 2080S right now on the current WU, so it certainly didn't reduce the top end.

yeha, CPU is pretty much fine for me. Maybe a wait time of 5min. GPU however still can take 20min or so. Well thats BETTER than in the last days where I sometimes only had 2 WUs per card per day

f@h servers are getting hit hard this past week what with Covid-19. they're having a hard time supplying enough WUs for everyone requesting. apparently they're working on upgrading their infrastructure.

i've just upped available CPU usage on BOINC in the meantime.

2060 Super it is so. Mostly just for Folding and extra monitors.

Although when I play Borderlands 2 with PhysX, it tanks even my Titan V if it get hectic at times. So will check how the card handles that, eitherway extra folding so. ( Next up a Zen 3 12 or 16 core CPU whenever that's out; my 5820K is getting slow these days. )

Now if only the Titan could get more WU's, it and my other system with 980Ti have been starved all day.
