LTT Folding Team's Emergency Response to Covid-19

Go to solution Solved by GOTSpectrum,

This event has ended and I recommend you guys head over to the Folding Community Board for any general folding conversation.

So I rebuilt a workstation to run F@H at work, along side my main workstation, but once I got the system together I couldn't find and PCIe power cables 😭 so I dropped a 1030 in and set it to run only on the CPU, and took the 1060 that was supposed to go in there and put it in my main workstation. 💪 But the spacing between them was kind of non-existent, so I unmounted the power supply and installed the GPU one slot down (and it has more bandwidth now). Still working on ways to allocate more resources.

I think its alittle harder to do that with the GPU's.
Like my CPU is showing up correct, with right ammount of cores etc. It's a "fixed" number it has to relate to.
While my GPU is being detectet as a Radeon 5600-5700XT, witch means it cant detect the exact model, and considering that the core on those cards vary from 1500 to over 2000mhz and v-ram is from 4 to 8gb, it might be harder for them to make a system that gives priority to better GPUs. Atleast untill they are able to seperate cards more in detail.
Edit: And as  Linus has showed us many times, it's not hard to trick a system into thinking it has a kickass card, og a card to think its more kickass than it really is 😛

True enough.

Thankfully it seems my Card as GV100 without issue, and unless you force an unlocked P2 state for CUDA rendering, the Titan V doesn't boost over 1335Mhz for CUDA work loads.

Turning off the P2 state lets it boost over 1700mhz, but god damn, the coilwhine when is mental.

Also I found out while my second system was not getting any GPU units for nearly 2 days!
It was downloading WU's, starting them, returning a BAD WORK UNIT, and then stall.

Each time I rebooted the client or system it kept trying to use the same work unit, and returning BAD WORK UNIT.
Turned out it was my drivers.

Driver 442.50 kept messing it up.

Just installed the new Doom Game Ready 442.74 and it got working again!

while I love that you're trying to get more compute online pls know that you need at least one slot between those cooler designs. Otherwise you'll choke the air supply and the blocked GPU will run hot, potentially shutting down as you run a cuda heavy program (F@H) on it.

but maybe it's just the photo angle. is there a slot between them?

The first photo showed the problem (no gap between the cards). Second photo shows the gap, and the fact that I had to unmount the PSU to make room for it. 🤘 Good looking out, though.

Edit: Oof, setting up the client to recognize both cards was a little scary lol. Once I figured it out it was pretty simple.

Yeah they're kind of "one run late" or more for personal stats, someone said they were only calculating team points but not user all the time. Had one run that was at 0, but next time it ran my 300K points I got in the previous period showed up.

Hi Guys

I Just joined in for the good cause,

is there any way I can get my GPU usage higher than 40% utilization or is that depending on specific Work Unit?

SNIP

Task manager doesn't show utilization for this task correctly. Either choose one of the graphs to be CUDA or Compute_#, or use something like GPU-Z

Check with GPUZ or Afterburner. Windows doesn't accurately report it, unless set to CUDA.

Welp...might be the time to bring the 2nd R9-Fury back out of storage (games these days have slowly dropping multi-GPU support).

Happen to have my old FX-8350 system and a couple of HD 7900 GPUs still as well.

(Too bad I haven't bothered to RMA the i7-6800K for my X99 system yet 🤣)

Frustration level rising.  Managed to turn in 366k points in the last 4 days.  Today, can't get a single WU.  14hrs now with no luck, tried restarts to no avail.  Got one WU that refuses to send and is on the problem child list over at the F@H forums and both gpu/cpu idle since 3am.  Bugger.

Seems to be centered around servers @ 155.247.164.214 / 213 with WU ID 11758.  Lots of people saying the server won't accept the finished unit back.  Mine finished 3/19@02:46z and hasn't sent yet.  It's lost over half its credit just sitting there.

Yup!

I've one of those units stuck trying to send for a day now, the longer it takes, the less points it's worth, and it keeps ticking down.

Anyone on here running really old hardware? Oldest I'm running currently is an early Core 2 Duo. I want to get my Compaq Deskpro EN with a Slot 1 PIII up and running with Mint and FAH. I tried a Pentium D but all it did was heat the room and take longer, so I swapped back in the lower clocked C2D.
