LTT Folding Team's Emergency Response to Covid-19

Go to solution Solved by GOTSpectrum,

This event has ended and I recommend you guys head over to the Folding Community Board for any general folding conversation.

Just finished the morning batch of reporting on Beta WUs.

Noticed the Linus WS is still up and that fah4.azure is in Assign mode but shows no WUs

Struggling to force uploads to retry, no point in folding if all my work stays local until it expires and gets reassigned. Would seem like the servers are struggling to accept work

@Shlouski, @Spotty

I do this for you, lol:

IMG_6661.thumb.jpg.64eefb9e7725fd919240656ba8d242a7.jpg

No idea why, but windows 7 default VGA wouldn't let me run more than 640x480.  Felt like 1" pixels on a 32".

But now each machine is running it's own discrete GPU, everybody has it's own power supply and luckily solidworks is still happy (I think the redraw issue may have actually been linked to W10 vs W7, not the card, though the 7970 won't do fluid/motion simulation as well as the K4000 because "approved hardware" reasons).  To wit:

R5 3600 + 5700 XT

Phenom II X6 1100T + Vega 56 AirBoost

Xeon E5-1620 + HD7970 Dual-X

Now let's see if I can get through a day without having to nurse any of them along...

R5 3600, 5700 XT, AX370 K7...  and that's plenty for me.  If you ignore the masses of other parts I occasionally put together and laugh about.

Thanks for that one! I was searching something better for my A8-5600k what never worked too well with Aida64 :)

Your welcome. I like the fact it's showing the pcie throughput for the video card.

side note: if you are using an RMM product that allow custom monitoring, all the info in openhardwaremonitor are accessible through wmi queries so you can get alerts on when your hardware is not processing wu's (data you can pull with powershell)

Dumb question. How are the winnings for the event chosen? Is it RNG among those that qualify or is it like the top producers. I am sure this was answered before, but I am American and too lazy to go hunt for the answer.

Mine gets stuck for hours on end after every WU I complete, 1070.  No matter what I do, restarting the PC or restarting F@H.

Here I've been literally crunching away on a new GPU WU before a just finished one is done uploading results for at least a day now. CPU WUs are more rare also here but that's generally the case, at least in these COVID-19 days...

Hey. I think it's justice. Y'all be crunching me and my measly 970 anyway so at least give me WUs... 🙂

So what you're saying is I should get a boatload of Q6600's and just enjoy the feeling of having WU's for longer :P

So what you're saying is I should get a boatload of Q6600's and just enjoy the feeling of having WU's for longer :P

Well, not so sure about that. This one was about getting WUs faster rather than having them longer; minimizing idle time; not maximizing crunching time... ;)

Yes, I know "not getting any" sucks; was in that same boat two days ago; couldn't get past the 10 WUs so as to qualify for the QRB even. But the pace has significantly picked up for me since then...

My problem is old hardware. GPU's are a 7950 and a 760. CPU is a 6600K.

I started folding with a 3570K and an HD-7870. Persisted with that for 5 months until upgrading.

Grrr. God Dammed Gigabyte and their dual BIOS. Rebooted my x370-Gaming K7 as I discovered my all-core overclock was gone and to adjust the fan profiles and discovered it was running a 2016 BIOS though I know I flashed it to a newer one last year.

Looks like I bumped the BIOS select switch when moving the motherboard.

my low thread Laptops, i7-6700k and Server (only allows 1/2 the cores on my server)  CPUs struggle alot more than my high thread 1700 and 3900

Edit: it feels strange calling quad cores with SMT(HT) low thread....

yeha its pretty insane how fast CPUs have gotten. I want some numbers on a 3990x 😮 but I guess you have to split that up because I dont think there will be WUs that support 128t

I am using my r9 3950x and i also get around 500k ppd (On 25 Threads from 32) ...haven't really paid attention tho...my RTX 2070 is getting in like 1.3-1,5m, but i think it is almost as balanced as it can get in a rig :D i usually just let the system fold and streamplay transport fever 2 while the pc is folding on the gpu...easily managable on 1080p full details :D
