Noctua CPU fan not aligned due to Ram

Keiran1983

Hi all,

I have just reinstalled the CPU fan to the cooler as shown on the pictures below.

The 2nd fan seems to be slightly higher than the 1st fan.  Is there anything wrong ?

I managed to close the glass window in the third picture.

You install these fans with metal clips to the heatsink, but it's entirely possible you installed the metal clips on one of them at a different height.

It doesn't really matter much, but if you want it to be even, count the amount of fins until you want to have the clip and just match that on both fans.

Hello,

Yep that's normal because your rams are tall you need to put the front fan a little higher. It won't reduce the cooling so don't worry :)

Noctua Fans are hard to attach to the CPU cooler given the metal clips provided.  Not enough space in the case (Lancool II) to really pull out the metal clips to secure it.

I've used screwdriver to do that part.

It's because of the height of the memory (ram). if you can close the side panel, it's alright. if you want the two fans to align, then move the middle fan up.

Trident Z RGB modules is 45mm in height.

It is an issue if you can't close the case.

That is what happened with a i9 9900k build I did.  The case was a SilverStone Technology RL06BR-GP and originally it was getting a be quiet! 250W TDP Dark Rock Pro 4 but it did not like the height of the Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro ram so I used a Noctua NH-D15 that was for another build. It fit over the ram but the case would not close with it installed. I could not put the fan in the front because of the i/o shroud was too tall as well.

The i9 9900k was to be overclocked to 5ghz all cores so I thought it was a big deal not having both fans. I ran the usual tests and the i9 9900k stayed cool with idles in the low 30s and games in the 70s.

The last Noctua I bought was the single fan NH-U14S. I figured if it had cooling issues I would stap on the NH -D15 fan but it did not need it.

Kinda sucked when yr cooler cannot fit inside the casing.  Any chance u can get a 120mm fan instead?

The system works perfectly with one fan so there is no point in adding a second. I give the Silverstone case credit for that.

If it did not I would have installed lower ram or used a wider case.

I had the parts so I don't have to order them if things don't fit.

If you aren't already repurposing the front fan, it looks like you can probably mount it at the rear for exahust.

The i/o shroud was about as height as the ram so it would have been the same problem.

If I have to put an high end CPU in a Silverstone RL06BR-GP again I will use a NH-U14S and add a second fan or go AIO.

I would use the case myself if it was a bit wider since its build quality puts all other cases I have used to shame.

I think you are about right.  The I/O shroud is also getting in the way.
