RX 5700XT or RTX 2060 Super?

nipplesalad

Hey guys

Im putting together a new pc and for the GPU i decided on the RTX 2060 Super because i heard some bad stories about the RX 5700XT's drivers.

Now im second guessing my decision, and i want to know what you guys think (i have bought the RTX 2060 Super but can still return it).

I previously decided on the RTX 2060 Super because:

- good drivers (I've had my fair share of buggy amd drivers)

- cool and quiet

- good performance

Do you guys think i should return it for an RX 5700XT?

The prices are:

- MSI RTX 2060 Super Armor OC (€370)

- MSI RX 5700XT Gaming X (€410)

Thanks alot!

I mean is the RTX 2060 Super doing good enough? I don't like the Armor OC much and the Gaming X *is* one of the best 5700XT so do consider that.

Do you intend to record and stream your gameplay? NVENC is a lot better for this purpose...

Also what resolution are you planning on playing at? Navi has shown issues with 1920x1080p and also has issues with high resolutions where performance deteriorates fast, 1440p is it's sweet spot so it's something to be aware of.

I play on 1080p 144hz (i also have a 1080p 60hz 2nd monitor) and i don't plan on streaming/recording but having the option would be nice. If i wanted the RTX 2060 Super Gaming x i would've paid €50 more which didn't seem worth it to me

I see that makes sense.

Well I don't know if you need to make the switch personally, the RTX 2060 Super is already sufficient for 1080p gaming if you're okay with fine tuning your in game settings and like stated previously I have noticed that major youtube channels such as Hardware Unboxed, Tech Deals, RandomGaminginHD and so on all had actual driver issues when trying to play at 1920x1080p

It's not something that will *certainly* give you issue, but there is a possibility... Adrenalin 2020 new driver also has been causing horrendous issues with Navi, kinda expected really since the Architecture is so new.

I would give it an extra thinking if it's worth the hassle of returning the 2060S at this point if it's already serving you well, you *could* be buying some headaches here for well not a whole lot more performance any ways.

This is my 2 cents... but do know that a 5700XT Gaming X for 410 euros is a good deal.

I only have the GPU in right now and plan on buying the rest on christmas, basicly what you are saying is that the extra performance isn't worth the potential issues it could give? (correct me if im wrong :) )

Adrenaline 2019 Edition should be fine. The new 2020 Edition drivers have been good for some, absolutely horrible for others. Worth a shot with the new ones, if they work then yay, if not you boot into safe mode, DDU (removes every trace of the new ones to make sure you don't fuck up the new install), then install the older 2019 Edition drivers.

^^ The 2060 Super will already slap, hell I've had 0 performance issues with my 1660 Ti (at 1080p144Hz and 2560x1080 at 60Hz and 75Hz) and that's a good bit lower. If you think the extra perf of the 5700 XT is worth it, then eh keep the card you have already, it's an excellent GPU.

Speaking from personal experience, you're not likely to notice the difference at all unless you go up res. Using my 1660 Ti and my watercooled (custom loop) Radeon VII (bit faster than the 5700 XT still IIRC, and I often run mine at a bit of an OC), I see no difference at 1080p lol. But then I run v-sync, which caps the fps to the refresh rate and feels a little smoother IMO.

As far as I know, which really isn't a lot, there are still driver issues. I would expect AMD to fix these in the future which means you'd have a more powerful card in the long run, but it is a bit of a gamble I guess.

Software updates will fix the issues, AMD would be foolish not to fix stability problems. I would go RX 5700XT personally.

I think they are getting close to being good if they are not there already.  Some people, honestly probably a very small amount, seem to still be having a few issues but I think we are at the point where those people are the anomaly rather than the norm.  Biggest issue I have been seeing has to do with Enchanced Sync.  Seems like 98% of the issues anyone is currently having are corrected by turning this feature off.
