How much money do you think Disney will make off Hulu and Disney+ and even ESPN (not sure what is incldued with their streaming service)? How much do you think CBS makes off of All access? I mean they have several shows that are all access exclusives. On top of these providers still gouging cable customers. What do they say in Vegas, "The house always wins!".

You rent an VPS. But keep in mind that VPS provider might keep logs. Keep in mind that you are only renting a single server in a data center. You not doing this like PIA, where you have multiple servers around the world you can use.

Canada has laws in place for Canadian content, that is why on the radio you hear The Tragically Hip 8000 times a day within a 24 hour period on one radio station.

Laws don't matter when enforcement is less than effective and in fact reinforces violations.

And that mentality is why they will fail.

 

The market, it would seem, has decided that the value is significantly less than what the corporations want, their refusal to accept this is only strengthening the case for less legal alternatives.

 

In a similar vein, I would congratulate drugs, for winning the war on drugs.

The issue is they DONT enforce the law. How often have you heard of someone who downloads a movie going to Federal Prison? You dont. Thats because the content providers the greedy bastards they are, just sue a person for $3000 and let them go. If people were to get serious prison time they would think about it before they hit that download button.

But the drugs didnt win. The corporations did. Ever hear about Private Prisons? Its a billion dollar industry here in the good old US of A. Why would they want to win the war? When they can rake in the profits.

At this point, I'd rather pirate or flat out purchase entire seasons of a show, standalone, than pay for any streaming service.

 

Example: I own all three season of The Expanse, and I plan on buying the 4th. I actually own many movies on Amazon's Prime Video.

 

I don't mind buying a product, but give me a goddamned reasonable price for that product and that product alone. Let me download a local copy of JUST. THAT. PRODUCT. Because streaming services are often shit.

 

Hell, I have trouble with Funimation's streaming service and I have legit GIGABIT internet. It still takes fucking forever to buffer and frequently interrupts my viewing to buffer.

 

Hell, give me a temporary zip file that my hardware can unzip and transcode AS I WATCH. That would function more effectively.

 

That's why I described an entire thing and not just a bunch of baby steps.

 

BitTorrent clients could in fact fix this blindspot where entering a magnet id would include accessing commercial databases and offering the user the option of "downloading a clean legit version" , I doubt commercial content creators would jump on board readily, but it might offer an alternative to Youtube since youtube creators have discovered Patreon and doing their own sponsorships.

Not really. I made my own VPN but many VPSes don't accept cryptocurrencies and zero identifying information. A seedbox would be better otherwise a VPN outside of the 14 eyes that you pay with crypto and use burner information while connected to tor.

Diffrence is most pirate are White Collar criminals. These are not trained kilers who can do 15 years in Prison. Also the current punishment in the US is like 5 years in Prison and OR $500K fine. $500K is nothing to shake a stick at.

There’s a couple VPNs I use but look up surf shark. They were relatively small, outside the 14 eyes jurisdiction, no logs, accept bitcoins as payment, have a kill switch, allow p2p connections, and don’t have a dns leak. It’s worked for a year now with no issues. They also have a canary watch too. But they look like they are getting more popular which is always a worry

I known this would happen. Its now turning into cable with extra steps. All of these companies need to realize that they should just be on 1-2 streaming services (Netflix, Hulu) and that's it. When you start to divide it, people realize its a cash grab and don't fall for it.

I don't mind that there are competitive services with exclusive content, after all competition is better for the consumer. My biggest pain point is how difficult it is to consume the content. I just cancelled my Netflix, because supposedly my PC doesn't support UHD content, yet I watch any UHD videos on YouTube. I used MSEdge, the Chromium-based Edge, the application, and none of them let me watch UHD content (the app being somehow incredibly slow to load, interact with, etc.) I mean, my PC is a few years old, but it's no slouch with a i7 6850K and a 1080Ti.

 

I don't even mind the price of the services, at 15/month for whatever library. I may be the minority, but I don't subscribe to a streaming service because it has the one show I want, but to check out shows I've not seen before instead of buying it outright. If I just wanted the one show, I'd just go buy the one show.

Someone should make a hardware firewll that you put between your modem & router, that is easy to understand for a nine techy.. It should no be wifi so hackers can't have easy access, like it needs like bluetooth that you can set up with a app.

Considering cable is already a cash grab...... What you need to think about is that it’s easy to sub to a streaming service and then unsub after your done with the shows you like. Then sub to a different one. The days of having 500 channels are gone.

Those things exist, but not the way you think it does.

 

There are firewall/VPN "devices" that are basically just NID's used to connect two enterprise networks to each other over the public internet. Having just one end point does nothing.

 

Let's say, there was a bulletproof hosting central hub, somewhere, let's say, Antarctica. To get onto this super-freedom-VPN, you have to purchase one of these NID's that have been pre-configured only to only send traffic to the VPN end-point. 

 

But this removes one of the features of the internet, the ability to route around damage or censorship.

 

The fact that the principal use of VPN's outside the Enterprise context is used almost exclusively for piracy and defeating copyright/regional locks, feels a lot like "mod chips for imports" but really are meant to play counterfeit/copies.

 

In reality, the VPN doesn't really do anything. If you have to give them a credit card, they know who you are. If you're buying disposable credit cards to renew it every year, those cards are purchased from places that do.

I actually had satellite, Dish, and we would loose HBO all the time because of how much they would try to negotiate. One of the reasons why I just dropped tv in general, is that right before that, we basically lost HBO for about a year. I bet they don't even have HBO back today.

No they really dont negotiate. The content providers say give us more money or fuck off. When the cable providers try to spend less, the channels get pulled. They the cable providers dumb fuck cusomters call and complain, even though their provider is tyring to get the content at a more reasonable price. Then the cable provider just caves in. And then you bill goes up. 

 

This is pretty much what happen when Cablevison and Fox ironed out a new agreement a few years back. It got so bad Cablevsion was trying to get the FCC invovled. Claiming Fox was not negotiating in good faith. 

 

Cable providers need to be more transparent when these type of issues arise. Let the customers know, lets the customers know how much the BILL would go up if they had to pay more for the content. If the public was more informed then maybe the content creators would have to negotiate in good faith instead of being greedy bastards. But at this point we are all fucked, because the Cable Co's own the content now and you got big conglomerates like Disney who has more clout than most companies.

Thats called piracy and in many place in the world thats illegal. Here in the US you can get up to 5 years in Federal Prison and or a $500,000 fine. Also, I find the quaily of pirated content to be meh.

Once I saw Netflix becoming big I called that other providers would try to all create their own. Thus creating the problem with generic TV services all over again. The reason I live Netflix now is because it covered alot of grounds. Disney+ will have only disney stuff and be for kids. I want something that I can watch with my kids and Watch on a Friday night with a date. HBO has a few shows but enough for me to have a separated subscription. This is the same with most of these subscription internet channels. Too much greed instead of trying to make great shows that put the name of the company on the map.
