"Gaming" chairs worth it, or get a good quality office chair?

SRRAE

As the title says.  Are "Gaming" chairs worth it?  I recently tried one for about £130 (about $150US) and it was terrible, mostly headrest of the chair being positioned right in between my shoulder blades.

So is it worth going for a "gaming" chair or just get something like a ergonomic office chair?

Office chair.  More comfortable, better for your body long term and usually much cheaper.

You should get a good office chair instead. Gaming chairs are not always ergonomic

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

Office chair obviously, no racing car chair from the 90's aesthetics is worth back pain, go with the best office chair you can afford... they also look good and your back will be thankful.

Get whatever feels good on your ass and back. Gaming chairs are pretty much just a gimmick. Everyone's body and posture is different, so you'll just need to sit on them until you find one that suits you.

I'd strongly suggest looking at office chairs.

I bought an expensive (not low cost) gaming chair. I went to Scan to try it before ordering. Found the most comfortable one in the shop, but it really didn't work for me once I got it home. I think the problem was, in the store, I wasn't sitting in it like I would at a desk. It's a comfy chair to chill in, but it wasn't a desk chair for hours of use.

Got a £40 amazon office chair. That immediately reduced my back pain significantly. Spoke to warehouse guy at work. They had some old office chairs I could take for £20. Even better.

I don't know where to look, but try and find somewhere to try office chairs out.

Maybe the gaming chair would be better for console gaming...

I got an office chair for £20 from one of the old computer fairs that used to happen around here.  It was obviously from a closed down office or replaced what they had.  Everything was adjustable and was the most comfortable chair I had.

I think office chair is the way to go.

I have a bad back and use a DXRacer. I am buying a second at the end of the month.

I have had lots of trouble with office chairs and usually had to use additional supports with them.

I went with a gaming race chair because the only seat I found that did not hurt my back were the ones in my sports cars.

It was only $300 and it replaced a $500 office chair.

My Son uses a Knoll and he tried the DxRacer and found it uncomfortable so I can understand anyone not liking them.

You can't generalize it like this.

Both "office chair" and "gaming chair" are two massive categories.

Just because one office chair is good/bad does not mean all of them are. Likewise, just because one gaming chair is good/bad does not mean all of them are.

My tips is to try and find a chair you like and ignore what the box says.

You’ll want an adjustable chair that first you find comfy for a short test period in the store, and second designed for sitting 8+ hours. If those chairs start comfy, they usually stay comfy in my experience.

Most proper office chairs are like this (as others have said).

Cheaper chairs are usually for 1-5 hours and so aren’t as comfy longer term.

I also find it’s too hard to get my 5-point harness buckles through the holes in the “racing chairs”, even if they look good, they just don’t make ‘em like they used to.

Alternatively, if you’ve got cash to burn, get a custom chair made out of a carbon fibre cast of your body, I understand that’s a “thing” nowadays ?

I'd avoid them. I have a high-end one and it's okay, but the build quality and overall design is not up to par with the price. Herman Miller is amazing and will last aeons, is but very (very) expensive. Go to a bunch of stores and try the chairs out. See what feels right for you. I'm almost 2m tall, and the adjust-ability of the chair is a plus for that.

Please please please take care of your back. So many people destroy their backs and only realise when they're older and it's too late. It's worth investing in something that will be ergonomic and comfortable, and it will likely be cheaper in the long run because of higher quality.

That's an F in the profile pic
