LTT Official Folding Month 2019!!!

Go to solution Solved by GOTSpectrum,

Alright guys, the time for locking this thread has come, can you all please use the Folding Community Board for all further talk.

Thank you all again for participating in the event.

Once the sheet is cleaned up I will edit this post to add the link to the spreadsheet.

@TVwazhere Can you please lock this thread for me.

Some odd reason F&H was stuck downloading on my 1070ti .... had to restart the PC to get it to start again... lost a few hours of work while it was sitting around :(

I think I'm having the same issue, I seem to only be getting a single 1070ti's worth of points right now

I'm also having that issue apparently. Happened today while I was away.

Downloads are generally pretty slow ATM for me, and sometimes they just slow to a crawl, or even stop and fail completely, causing the FAHClient to either try downloading a new WU or just completely hang up on that particular slot, until I restart the whole client.

I had slow uploads this morning, but that was probably due my connection failing. There have been many posts about slow downloads/uploads and some problems with getting WUs. I have been lucky with those problems and only once I've had to restart my computer to get a WU. If I use this thread as reference it looks like the problems have surfaced in last few weeks, lets hope this doesn't get any worse in coming weeks.

Not good at all. can you not setup a mobile wifi router on a cheap data sim while they sort it out?

I do have some backup hardware, I can use an old phone as router. I need to get a prepaid card for it, that's only short walk to get one. For now I have few days to see how this turns out.

The method for handing out the keys will be as follows, I will use googles random number generator, taking the first number given.

Once it has been decided the willing ranks will be announced in the Folding month blog(To be created) and each member will be tagged, you will then have 7 days to claim your prize.

If it is not claimed, the prize will be raffled again using the same process as above.

To claim the prize you must DM me within the given 7 days with the subject line 'Claiming prize'.

My question to you guys,

should myself and the other guys involved be allowed to claim one of these prizes if the draw picks us out?

I'm going to leave that up to you, let me know what you think.

This is amazing. And as one of the people involved I am definitely not worried about being included or not in the prize drawing.

Yeah uh, don't know what's wrong there. This is a laptop btw (it's plenty capable of cooling itself, don't worry about that), with an R5 3550H and GTX 1650 running the latest drivers, and latest install of Windows 10 Home.

If you're returning back WU's you should really be looking at your stability first. Often with laptops out of the box they will not be stable under compute workloads so you might want to try underclocking and see if that helps first.

To paticipate in the drawings for the LTT prices, we have to sign up for this too, right?

As far as i read, the requirements for participation are also lower than this folding month thread describes.

Kinda weird they are both called folding month 2019, but are two different things working towards the same cause. Where the official thread (this one) is started by a non-employee, and the "apparently not official thread" is started by LTT.
Some clarification whould be nice, i am sure that many people will get a bit confused about this.

It’s pretty clear tho... this is the community thread for f@h and we started this on the forum a while back.

now LMG/LTT get involved themselves as we are closing in on the start of the folding month. They have seperate prizes to what we have here in the community.

best way I can explain it with my knowledge. Please correct me if I wrong ☺️

Both threads are to advertise the LTT Folding Month, a yearly event that was started by a forum user last year. This thread was made to elicit interest from the common forum user, and the recurring folders. Prizes are also offered by generous fellow forum folders.

The LTT thread that was just posted was made to further invite people into the fold with the incentive of more favorable prices. Most of the users (often new) that would be posting on that thread are probably only entering for the chance to win, which is why the requirements are easier to meet.

Either way, the goal of the event is to invite user to donate their compute power to help drive disease research. It's up to you if you want to win a prize.

I'm in it for the badges to help Alzheimer's research.

This is the event thread, the LMG thread is their giveaway for this event. Simple really.

This is the third year of Folding month, the first became the folding community thread, the other events, Folding month and summer sprint are linked in the OP.

We are a community driven event folly supported and backed by LMG, hence why this is the official event and their is the giveaway.

@jakkuh_t can you add some clarity on your thread, maybe alter the title so avoid confusion.

Hey everyone this sounds great to me! Just wondering if there is a command line version for Ubuntu as I have a blade server with 14 nodes I could get running for this and would be nice to have a cli so I can just ssh and install instead of making a Gui boot for them all xp

You could try this. Works for me on Ubuntu 16.04.

apt update
apt full-upgrade -y
apt install nano wget bzip2 telnet -y
wget https://download.foldingathome.org/releases/public/release/fahclient/debian-stable-64bit/v7.5/fahclient_7.5.1_amd64.deb
dpkg -i --force-depends fahclient_7.5.1_amd64.deb

After installation, you can set up your config.xml (should be in /etc/fahclient) and then run the client with 'FAHClient'.

EDIT: I would recommend running the client in screen or tmux, though. So it doesn't exit when you close the SSH session.

Well hello again everybody. I'm back. I think I was here for the first folding month, and I'm quite sure I missed on in between, so this time Discord notification really helped. I've still got the same rig so I won't be taking any top spots, but will give it my best. Maybe I even stay over the winter if I don't get any noise complaints :D

My £350 acer laptop

GPU only

Yeah with a GPU :D My quick google search told me that you mostly can't fold with GPUs on macs... Though I have no clue what kind of a difference the Radeon Pro 560X would make.

Actually the community board was originally my first event of "folding week" but yes back in 2017 I believe. The first folding month was actually last years event. Just for the record that first folding week (stats for it I believe are still linked in the community board OP) was a total of 10 people including myself compared to the now over 1400 singups we have for this event!!!!!! Love to see how much this community has grown and how many people are helping this great cause.

Ok since the event is right around the corner I figured it was time to start showing off our rigs.

This was my extremely sketchy setup I was running last year as my dedicated rig just to give you an idea of how much its improved:

(note how one system and the other gpu are running off of one psu while the other is running only the board and cpu on the other machine this of course never lead to issues... ?

And here are this years much improved versions:

ComputeBox (I am not creative with names)

Note that I actually hooked up the front panel so that the power button and everything works.

And in my opinion the much more beautiful ComputeClassic:

On top of this I do have my gaming tower at home that I don't have pics of at the moment but really just looks like any gaming tower in a define s (nothing special) and will be doing my usual limited folding on my work computer of AW13 R3 oled.

@GOTSpectrum Silly Question

about the start time for the event.... is it midnight of the 30th..... so UK time - Monday at midnight it starts...

does that make sense?

The begining stats will be the pulled from the Stanford servers at 00:15 UK time, this will be the 00:00 update. So all points produced during or after the first day of October, up too and including the whole of the 4th of November will be counted.

I hope this offers the clarify you seek.
