Tech job - what do you do for living?

I'm currently gathering up qualifications to become a motor vehicle technician, cars these days are filled with tech. My dad however is a CNC programmer for 2 Waldrich Coburg machines, he's worked for the same company for about 28 years. The company he works for makes barrels/liners, dies/ancillaries & feedscrews for the recycling and plastic industry and these machines are the only two machines of their kind in the UK.

:D not really. why? you got complains?

no right now i just help writing the test softare they use to test their systems.

those things get written by embedded developer im more on the windows side.

but i do get to listen in on what they are doing and planning on doing so i totally get the problems with alot of them. if you knew whats going on at some companys...man i cant name them but some car manufacturers really need to get their shit together. even the pressumably high quality ones.

PhD student in astrophysics; self described astro-engineer because I am not the typical astronomy student. My research interest is on instrument and telescope system design and observational methodology.

Given some of the issues I've seen and heard of from coworkers and friends, I wouldn't be as surprised as you think. ?

Both my Subaru and Mini (BMW based) infotanment systems are hot garbage.

As for myself, I work in the New York region at GlobalFoundries, the semiconductor manufacturer best known by this community for Ryzen 1st & 2nd gen (though not third gen, which is kinda sad for us..)

I was an ASE certified automotive technician, the Mini/BMW dealer will make you pay out the @$$ to have something simple replaced rather than fixing it by soldering the broken connection.

I'm a solutions validation engineer. I break things (or try to) for customers who come to us and want to deploy new solutions/do migrations/etc. and we're tasked with making sure the solution can be implemented properly, any bugs/caveats to watch out for, and all the other fun stuff :)

I work in the tech department for a large retailer (Fortune 100) as a data scientist. We build production applications for different parts of the business that leverage machine learning to improve upon their processes (greater automation, accuracy, new features). Mostly that means writing code for back-end work, database and data manipulation, understanding business problems and data sources, exploring data, and modeling. In terms of time spent, it's mostly the data prep and backend stuff rather than the data analysis and modeling, which is pretty common.

I love to fuck with computers, I love working on hardware.  I got a desktop support certification through University of Phoenix, and went to MSU for an IT degree, naturally.

So obviously this all means that my career ended up being law enforcement.

Currently focusing on my video game collection.

It doesn't matter what you play games on, just play good games you enjoy.

That's hilarious, yet somehow kind of awesome. Make sure you spread the tech love around a not necessarily tech field!

I studied pure chemistry with no engineering courses and ended up in an electrical engineering job (semiconductor manufacturing), where they somehow thought my complete lack of any EE experience made me a good hire.

Good thing they haven't caught on to this yet... ?

So if you know me you know I am pretty knowledgable with most of the IT space. I am in Cybersecurity these days and operate as a specialist/engineer. I also do/have done digital forensics, cyber hunting, cyber Intel, and red team as well.

I work for a fortune 10 or better company (if I get more specific you would know who it was). Being in my field, doing what I do, with the companies and entity's I work with/for means it is almost a necessity unfortunately.

Either way I enjoy these forums both at home and work lol.
