Tech job - what do you do for living?

Technically, I'm a server administrator, software developer, web developer, graphic designer, and business owner. It's a lot of work, but I (mostly) enjoy it.

Tl;dr: I own, manage, and develop modded Minecraft servers. Not much of a "living", but it certainly helps.

Hey tech guys,

What do you do for living? Are you IT specialists? Contractors? Electricians ? Is there anything odd or intresting in your job?

I am working in small IT company, we manufacture VMS - video managment system, we build servers for cctv monitoring, for big, enterprise systems. If you have any question regarding CCTV, you can AMA. Also after hours, I am admin in small company.

I am working as a web developer on an IT firm. I know PHP, WordPress, and SEO. I have been working in this field from 2014.

Right now I work as a hypervisor & wintel engineer managing environments for a large ICT company including enterprise customers environments.

Essentially I do Hyperconverged Infrastructure (VMware & Hyper-V), Server Hardware, Cloud Management, Windows Server, Exchange On Prem/O365, Mail/Proxy filtering, Citrix XenApp/Netscaler, SCCM/WSUS, AD/GPO, DNS/DHCP. SSL Certificates, etc....doing automation there's also an emphasis on scripting Powershell, Batch, VBS, Pearl, etc...

Previously I used to do Networks & Unix. Cisco Routers/Switches, Managed Data Circuits including 4G, Fiber, BBA, PRA/BRA ISDN, etc...Cisco AP's + Controllers, Ruckus AP's + USG, Checkpoint Firewall, F5/Netscaler load balancers, RHEL, Solaris, etc...

In my spare time I do PHP/CSS/HTML, Bash, Python, Pawn, etc...for my own personal scripts like game server mods and front end site design.

Im also the system admin for a friends company doing web/facebook applications and video production. I manage the Linux Servers (install/config/update), SQL Database admin, Backups, Security, SSL's, etc....

I cringe at half the stuff I see Linus do with networks & servers, but its good entertainment :D

Before getting into IT, I did diploma in Culinary and worked as a Chef and I was an apprentice builder doing new home builds & renovations

I was a 3D graphic artist/designer and retired in 2018.

I did other things along the way like desktop video, desktop publishing, image editing for large format printing, game content creation and early on, programing.

Except for a year as a design manager I was freelance.

Before computers I was a Rancher, welder, auto worker & aircraft mechanic. I got into computers because I injured my back and needed to do a desk job. So it sort of was out of necessity.  3D design is like playing with lego for a living so I had lots of fun doing it.

I also did some physical labor jobs before I got running in it. I actually jumped in much sooner than I would have because of a previous employer.

I was a supervisor for a manufacturing company on second shift. I took kids to school in the morning and then went to class myself... after class off to work and the wife got the kids.

Well apparently my shifts numbers were better (efficiency) than the first shifts. So they offered me a "promotion to days" with a slightly higher wage. I ended up turning it down because of school and family obligations. They informed me I would either start the following monday on days or they would accept my resignation. The look on their face when I said ok and left was priceless. I finished the semester probably 2 months or so... switched to night classes and landed a job doing computer forensics/ e-discovery for a fortune 500 company.

I'm the epitome of boring. I write/maintain bespoke tax software for a Government department. Mainly .Net. A bit of Java and SharePoint work on the side as needed too.

It was always my life's goal to sit on my arse and take money off the government, and that's why I got a desk job in the public service.

I'm a service desk analyst, desktop support technician, Linux/Unix server support technician, and webdev. Basically I can do a bit of almost everything and know enough to get into trouble as it were. ?

For the screen is blue and full of errors.
