Tomb Raider capped at 30 FPS for the Xbox One, PS4 40-60 FPS

Today, they've published their first look at the next-gen versions, focusing on a frame rate comparison. During gameplay, they've got the PS4 averaging 50.98fps and the Xbox One averaging 29.84fps, with more fluctuation on the PS4 version and a more consistent but lower frame rate on Xbox One.

This just sad, the Xbox One's hardware age is already showing, and the console hasn't even been out for a year yet. I do find this strange though - the Xbox One consistently stayed at 30 FPS, which leads me to believe that the FPS may be locked. I dunno, but what I do know is that the PS4 is the more powerful console, so if the Xbox one's FPS isn't locked for this game, these numbers don't surprise.

What do you think about this?

EDIT: Ok, the FPS is actually locked on the Xbox One version. Why on Earth would you do this Microsoft or whoever is responsible for this?

Obviously locked at 30fps.There is a hardware performance difference between the two consoles, but it's not enough for a 30fps difference.

Microsoft probably did it to try and prevent screen tearing, but it's still stupid.

sorry, but that logic is flawed, if they differed in speed by much outside of the YT video then the PS4 version would have steadily gained more and more ground on the XBONE and later be quite a bit ahead, which did not happen.

you mean as far as gameplay is concerned? as in where xbone would be at 10 seconds, ps4 would be at 15?

youtube doesn't alter the timeline according to FPS.  it takes whatever vid you upload at whatever framerate and converts it to 30 fps.  if you upload a 10 second 60fps clip, it will still be 10 seconds, just at 30 fps.  thats why both the ps4 and xbox footage looks the same on the youtube vid, they're both played back at 30fps

nevermind dude, it's midnight here so I'm too tired to convert what I want to say into english, but basically if you have a video source that is sucky and lags with a video source that is playing better and you link these two in a comparison video and then upload them onto youtube, youtube doesn't magically make the laggish video source as fast as the better quality video that ran without lag. how do you think other comparison videos are uploaded to youtube and show a difference?

I know the video now runs at 30 fps but you should still see lag if one of them were slower.

I've seen vids with graphical differences, never ones where I was able to see an FPS difference unless it was reeaally low, like 20ish or less.  and for the record, a steady 30 fps is not laggy just watching it (you may be able to tell playing it cause you can feel it through the controls), just less smooth.  why do you think Linus made vids available as torrent downloads when they made their xbone vs ps4 vs pc vids?  for exactly this reason

show me a vid as an example

This'll be my last reply anyway, because I don't really care about this enough to go on, it's true that 30fps is laggy if hardware is pushed to the limit, but if it's a "V-sync" type thing then the input lag isn't as much, though it is there. I've done a load of tests myself and when I run the same game at 30 fps vs the same game at 50 fps, the 50 fps game takes the lead ever so slightly. Either way, anyone willing to play on a console won't feel a difference and the main focus of my reply was visuals so bringing input lag into this (which I agree might be slower on the XBONE by a bit) actually goes offtopic off of the youtube discussion we were having. There are a bunch of comparison videos on YT, search them, I might link it tomorrow if I have time, but work keeps me busy and at night I prefer doing whatever it is I want to do.

we're not arguing we're just debating if it were an argument it would be personal.

Does anyone else feel like Microsoft pays IGN and Sony pays Kotaku?

Of course they do. Both sites are laughable.

http://www.hardcoregamer.com/2014/01/24/tomb-raider-face-off-pc-vs-ps4/71343/

Left side pics looks better then the right and that is only PC Ultra at 1080p. The cave on the PS4 looks awful. My build was under 800 (black Friday), and Kotaku used shots that look nothing like what even a medium pc build can do.  Add to that you don't need a 4770k  to kill a console cpu lol. :) A 6300fx will do that.

You can match the ultra shots in that article on a 700 dollar build. Add to that? Tomb Raider on the PC is currently 8.99 on Amazon.

A sucker is born every minute and Kotaku and IGN cater to them. Just google "caught using PC shots" to see how these console companies have to LIE and use fraud to pander their junk. The PS4 is a 25 percent underclocked 7870, which puts it at about a 7850. The Xbox GPU is about a 7770 and not even that because it is NEUTERED with non GDDR5 for vram.

Look at the system bandwidth of the Xbox one. It is pathetic.

http://www.anandtech.com/show/7528/the-xbox-one-mini-review-hardware-analysis/2

A 6300FX, r9 270 = slightly better then the PS4 and many times better then the xbox one. An I5 and a gtx 770 or 280x? Kills both. A 1440p  machine? Not even in the same league. The Kotaku article is the funniest thing I have ever seen.

http://kotaku.com/no-this-is-not-what-the-pc-version-looks-like-on-ultra-1508649727

Read the comments lol. Kotaku was busted, and busted hard.
