Netflix Price Increase

I just got an email early this morning that Neflix is raising the price for two screen service by 20% to $12.99/month.  Here's what they say, " Keep watching what you want, when you want and know that we’re working to improve the Netflix experience for everyone, everywhere. Thanks for being a loyal member. "

It cost a lot to lobby and pay greedy movie studios who want all of the money.
Also to make netflix originals.

 

It's still cheaper than adding a dedicated movie channel/package to your TV service... (It's 10$ at the bare minimum here.. which doesn't include any newer movies, all old crap nobody wants to watch in the first place... for the newer stuff it's at least 25$)

Price increase equals decision making time. 

 

Netflix seems to be moving away from the type of content I like so I will be dropping them soon unless they add more content like anime and Asian movies.  Hulu moved away from what I like a few years back and I dropped them on a price increase. 

 

I already dropped Crunchyroll this year and if I drop Netflix that leaves me with Amazon Prime and Xfinity with HBO.  Xfinity is part of my condo fees but if that changed I would get rid of them as well.

For me Netflix is still worth the money. There's a lot of stuff there that I like and they seem to be adding more good stuff quite frequently. I could just pirate everything, sure, but Netflix is much more convenient.

Netflix back in the DVD mail days literally had every movie. Now it sucks a lot lol

*Shrug* if you want to use the service, pay the price. If not, then don't use it. If they lose enough people, then they'll look at their pricing structure again.

Right now I imagine it's still such a low monthly fee that even if most people don't use it that often, they won't bother canceling it.

I don't have Netflix. Personally I can think of better things to do with my time; gym, being outside, time with friends, etc.

Have to agree with this, I've never heard Netflix make an actual good series. Amazon Prime on the other hand, has some pretty good stuff.

Jessica Jones and Daredevil were also very good and it's too bad they were cancelled.  Some of their documentary efforts are also quite decent and to my wife's delight they have several Turkish soap operas streaming as well.

Netflix DVD still does have basically every movie. It's the streaming service that has the licensing issue.

No it costs more for DVD when before it was just what Netflix was

Well I get that and no DVD used to be how it worked and then they introduced the DVD you put in your game console to watch movies online. Which led to the online only version

Content providers keep raising prices like ass holes. So we have to keep paying more. Thats the same reason cable providers keep raseing prices, and why broadcast TV fee and Sports Fee's exist. That being said, the price change to me doesnt matter too much. Netflix has proven that they can make good content. Between them and Hulu I have to say you get a good amount of good content.

The price increases suck, but at the same time, I don't think Netflix has much of a choice.  It was supposed to pay around $8 billion for content in 2018, and it raised $2 billion in debt to help pay for content at the end of that year.  If it's going to use originals to make up for the loss of partners like Disney, someone has to pay for that material.

Exactly. Disney is interested in there own streaming services which is why they pulled the content. Looks like Disney is setting up Hulu for more of its adult oriented content and having its own streaming service for its more family oriented content.

Curious on what your wife actually watches, I actually translated some of those shitty tv series for netflix from turkish.

Yeah, while it's annoying that they raised their prices, what do you expect them to do?

 

More and more studios are pulling their content and trying to launch their own streaming services. Disney buying fox means that a massive amount of good content will be (or already has been) pulled.

 

Netflix can't do a damn thing about it.

 

What they can do is to make excellent original content and draw in subscription figures in the vein hope that they can lure back companies like Disney.
