Another one of these "It's up to the web developer" suggestions, but figured it's worth a mention...

We all hate it when an OP writes a very detailed or very picture heavy Topic, only to have someone quote the whole damn thing and reply with "what GPU is that?" or some other arbitrary question. Sometimes someone writes a very detailed and long response, and someone quotes the reply and comments "okay but what about blue?". Usually the solution is to delete, or "snip" the irrelevant material to the response one might have to an otherwise long response (or sometimes all of it) but sometimes people are just lazy. Other times, people are on mobile and it can be difficult for them to easily and quickly delete whats in the quote so they leave it there.

Two solutions would be

  1. Transform Quotes into spoilers beyond a certain paragraph line limit/photo size (probably not something that could be implimented easily)
  2. Minimize Quotes based on the above criteria (More plausible but still probably back end web development type stuff)

Personally I'd like a little bit of a preview, like how a post that's marked as Solved looks, rather than just putting all of it in a spoiler.

Otherwise I could see a lotta value in this because way too many people feel the need to quote an entire book of a thread.

Check out my guide on how to scan cover art here!

It's difficult to figure out a proper solution but this really is an annoying issue we face daily, people that just hit the "quote" regardless how long it is and creates a considerable visual clutter on the thread.

Maybe set a hard limit of lines on quotes without spoilers is a way to go, if you try posting it exceeding the limit either fails with a pop up warning the user or spoilers it automatically?

Would be nice seeing an automated fix but I have my doubts on implementation...

On this regard, on what concerns moderation, can you report a reply to request the quote to be -sniped-/spoiled?

It's easy to come across it:

The automatic spoiler is the first suggestion, so If I was to try and quote my whole OP it would be automatically turned into a spoiler like this:

Spoiler

So for example:

This would really be amazing though, especially in picture heavy threads (car forum, custom builds, show off your setup, etc...) I'm all for this!

I don't really see issue while on desktop, but for mobile something similar with how signatures work overall. Like it shows 3 first lines and then there's "Show more" option.

Picture heavy posts are usually the biggest issue for Desktop users since on mobile they're compressed in physical size (not resolution)

I see that being issue with thread and users more than how quotes are displayed. That thread could have same ruling with quoting pics than with Show off -thread. With mods having agreed to remove needless quoted pics.
