Is it just me or are the new EVGA card designs worse looking than the old?

It could be just me but I personally don't really like the way the EVGA RTX cards look, I have an EVGA GTX 1080ti FTW3 and absolutely love it, the design is really cool to look at and in my opinion one of the best out there. But these RTX cards just look old to me. The smokey clear plastic is the worst part, if it were a solid color I don't think I'd mind too much but I can't really explain it just bothers me how they look. I was really looking forward to the new FTW3 card and man I feel disappointed. And yes by design I mean the "aesthetic" of the card.

Everything nVidia pushes out is ugly as sin these days and i am sick of seeing their reference metallic designs. Otherwise i think nVidia do a great job besides raising the mid range GPU cost.

Opaque shrouds > Transparent shoruds

 

And I agree that EVGA's new RTX card coolers look hideous.

I agree. Not really a fan of the transparent plastic shroud, but I would replace it anyways with a waterblock so it doesn't really bother me.

 

The optional carbon shroud looks so much better (the red accents can be changed), not worth the price though.

partners werent given much time at all for the rtx launch, it was likely evga focused on just big heatsinks for boost 3.0 instead. I actually havent seen any1 being picky on design at all for the 2080 ti, maybe now that they are in stock we'll see picky peeps.

 

Also the cooler on the FE is decent, AIBs have to beat it by far, easy way to do it is to ignore looks and slap a big heatsink on there.

I mean. EVGA basically changed 1 thing aesthetically, they likely did this on purpose.

I think it's fine, if the cooler is decent and the fans are quiet.  IMO it doesn't matter because you'd see the backplate unless the card is installed vertically.

I mentioned the same thing in a post, EVGA cards have been looking worse since the 1080 Ti launched.

 

Unless you get a FTW3 or iCX card they seem to make the shrouds in a more 'frugal' manner. But ultimately they still perform like beasts so it's not a big deal.

 

EDIT: Looking back it actually seems that with the 1080 TI launch things changed the most. I have a 1080 SC2 iCX and it looks really good (probably my favourite EVGA card to date), but I would say that I like the look of my 980 Ti classified more than the 1080 TI SC I have now.

Think the last couple gens looked like crap.  Kepler was ok. But always preferred fe. Actually talking time to design something nice. Not being flashy and attracting the add crowd. Like the days of sticklers with dragons or 3d women. But if it’s what sells why change it. Still monochrome unlike other vendors.

I want single slot coolers back as well.  This is from the era of 3D boobs and flashy stickers on GPUs, yet still looks quite nice.  And it would be able to cool a 1060 or 1660 Ti.

All have this beat by a wide margin, the 4850 was audible, it was far from ripping the skin off of your face with sine waves like these things could.

yep , I dont like the "holes design" , looks fragile and looks like evga cut down material cost this way.

Yes and they are dying out for exactly that reason.

Now look at the Radeon HD4850 (or 3850).

 

They were in the range of the 1050ti or slightly above that but not much...

HD 4850 was ~150w total card consumption (110w TDP, 130-150w measured).  Easily in 1060/1660 territory.

 

1050 Ti uses ~100w, IN FURMARK.  In games its ~80w.

the only good looking part from the EVGA RTX design is the backplate, shroud is ugly, the fan is the one which has the worst looks, the fans are kind of artifacting.. LOL
