Yes, we all know that these monitors will have to compromise on things because their technologies and price point. Also this is not a gaming monitor, it isn't marketed as on either.

Get your pitch forks out everyone, its been reported by pcgamer that dell's 4k displays (yes thats right both the 28" and 24") will only have a 30hz refresh rate, thats on both hdmi and display port.

Dell actually has 3 4K offerings.

The 24 and 32 inch model both are 60Hz cabaple

The 28 only in 1080p mode.

We already knew this. It was kind of expected. I personally would rather have 60 fps on 1440p or 1080p than 30 fps on 4k.

The 28" cheap 4k monitor wasn't really intended for gamers. It's still a great "cheap" solution for productivity, I'd say

The 24 inch is the best option right now at a reasonable price.

False. The information you provided is wrong.

Dell UP2414Q manual specifically states 60Hz at 4K over DisplayPort 1.2

ftp://ftp.dell.com/Manuals/all-products/esuprt_display_projector/esuprt_Display/dell-up2414q_User

To display 3840 x 2160 at 60 Hz, DP1.2 must be enabled and the DP

source’s graphics card must be DP1.2 certified with MST feature, capable of

supporting resolution up to 3840 x 2160 at 60Hz and its driver supports

DisplayID v1.3.

It was never for PC gaming. At CES they only mentioned the productivity improvements not the gaming aspect. I doubt they ever made this for PC gamers as it doesn't have a 60hz panel.

The 24inch is 60Hz. Confirmed in the Dell manual. The site is wrong.

The 28inch, is 30Hz. Yes... it's also cheap... sooo that's fine for this year.

to be fair, most games won't run above 30fps on 4k anyway. Still sucks though

True, people with the disposable income to buy the hardware to push more than 30FPS @4k, will be able to afford a 60Hz monitor. Everybody else won't be capped by the monitor refresh rate anyway.

It's not likely that we will ever see a 120Hz IPS or VA panel. I don't remember where I heard it but it has something to do with the specific tech in the panels that makes them different from a TN panel that keeps it locked at 60Hz. If you really want 120Hz, you are going to have to go TN at this time but there are some pretty solid TN 120Hz monitors out there that are equivalent to low end IPS monitors.
