Sounds like she should get the most power hungry card you can find.  You should definitely get her a 3090.

When I was younger, I had a really cool airplane swing my dad made.  The stick actually made it tip and dive and stuff with a pulley system too.  Maybe a large adult version would be fun for you to build and enjoy.

How does it scale? Is it always like that. Played Mass Effect so it's not demanding on GPU...

ultimately i know my R6 with it's current fan setup can handle the heat load of a 2080Ti, that's been proven to me over many months of folding. But, only just. It's right on the edge, and with the 3090 threatening to draw quite a lot more power.. it's not going to cope. need more air.

The Meshify S2 works well. I have 2 I use for dual gpu rigs as well as a S2 and a R4 for the other two dual rigs and a single GPU in a "C"

Anyone know of a cheap off the shelf computer I can put a rx580 and a rx 590 into ? New or used I don't care I've got 2 GPU's sat around doing nothing but I don't have anything to up them in.

i dont think an off the shelf or cheap computer could handle either of those cards lol best bet would be to get a cheap atx MB an cheap Ryzen processor and a mid price PSU and a lower cost case...

Finally getting around to getting FoldyPuffJr and it's P106-100 up and running again for winter. Was too annoyed with Python2, Ubuntu 20.04, and some other stuff to mess with it all summer. New LTS is out, that nice Cuda driver improvement, a 600W Gold PSU ordered, and some more spare parts (i3 4130, 8GB DDR3) have inspired me to get the box back and folding again. With Ampere out hopefully I'll be upgrading my friends PC and get my GTX 950 back and see how that thing can fold (or not fold) along side the P106-100. I'll see what the GTX 650 can do but I still expect it to be too slow even with the new driver.

 

I had to pull the GTX 650 out because fah wouldn't see the P106 with the 650 installed, but that's no big loss lol. Currently waiting on some WU's to come through the internet pipes so I can see what this P106 does with the new driver and stuff. Is there another WU drought going on?

 

edit: got some WU action now! All seems to be working properly, finally have all the bits of the puzzle that were giving me such a hard time on 18.04 and 19.xx working smoothly with 20.04! A few bits to tidy up like setting a static IP so I can move it to the basement and not have any weird issues with fahcontrol on the laptop and desktop not finding it and set up the babysitter script to run at login along with the client so it can keep busy.

 

Edit2: Working great, small but stable OC on the P106-100 to 1920mhz over the 1860 it was running before. Got the babysitter script to launch at start now, need to see if the clock speeds apply at start without launching GWE. One last thing to do is to set a static ip on the machine which looks very simple. I'm averaging around 105-110 W draw and looks like just a hair under 500,000 PPD. Not amazing but better, and even better is that I have a Gold rated PSU in there now which is substantially more efficient than the old PSU.  It's so nice having everything 'just work' this time around!

 

Edit3: swapped a Pentium G3460 for an i3 4150 at work so I can swap the Celeron G1820 for the G3460 at home in the folding rig. Win/Win, shop pc is faster and now has AVX and Hyperthreading, FoldyPuffJr gets a 30% bump in CPU power for almost the same wattage and can now use DDR3 1600. It's super laggy running the P106 if I try to do anything else when it's folding because of how Nvidia locks one CPU core up to run the card. Makes it frustrating to finish setting things up. Probably going to have to swap from passive to active CPU cooling.
