Go to solution Solved by GOTSpectrum,

So I've been looking for something that would let me remotely monitor my FoldyPuffJr down in the basement, fahcontrol lets me keep tabs on that but I was left in the dark for something simple and easy to use to keep an eye on the hardware and OS side of things...until now! BUT FIRST LTTSTORE.COM. Ok no but really, it's called glances and it can run a lil webpage on the local network that lets you peep in on the system super easily and seems to run pretty light too.

Just a quick

sudo apt install glances

Then from terminal on the machine you want to monitor run

glances --enable-plugin sensors -w

Which will output
Glances Web User Interface started on http:/THE PC YOU WANT TO MONITOR IP ADDRESS:61208/

And you should be able to watch things easily from anything on your own network. Phone, PC, Mac, Linux, etc.  Nice! (you may need to install some additional packages for specific things in your specific system, I need to tinker to get Nvidia GPU monitoring working)

Yeah, that's just insane.

I don't know if they are rotating GPU's in and out or what. But even just the number of ones that last reported TODAY is ridiculous!

Slowly rising back up. Is it tempting fate to take the system down and see if I can get the RX580 running along side the P106-100? It's up and it's working fine now....I mean I need to swap the CPU anyway and was gonna cut some holes in the motherboard tray for heatsink access like a modern PC has also so I don't need to pull the board out to swap CPUs each time.

Be happy with what I have or try to double my PPD and risk breaking it all?

Anyone else running Linux have a problem with systemd/sysV and the FAHClient.  It seems that even though I do a $(systemctl stop FAHClient) or $(service FAHClient stop), the process still remains.  This has lead to an irritating problem where I would be sending instructions to what I would expect to be FAH, but it would be the wrong client!  Systemd says the client is dead, but the process is clearly still running.

OS: Ubuntu 20.04

Any suggestions?

I've had nothing but problems with FAH on 20.04 LTS, though it has worked great on 18.04 LTS.  I have it running though, which is good enough for the event.  I intend to rebuild that system after the folding event is over anyway.

I can't say I've had that issue but I just leave it running except for reboots. Is there something specific I could try for you?

Yes, if you want to kill it to say restart It due to a stuck slot I usually

FAHClient --send-pause

ps -ef | grep fahclient

kill -KILL <child PID>
kill -KILL <parent PID>

Kind of the root equivalent of hitting it in the head with a hammer.

Ubuntu 20.04 LTS isn’t quite ready for prime tIme yet WRT folding. Mostly due to the age of the client and partially due to the usual fsckery Canonical does.

Yeah, I've been fortunately successful with sigterm, rather than sigkill, so I haven't gotten that far.  Reminds me of a page presenting the description of "kill -9" as the equivalent of using a combine to harvest a flowerpot.

However, what's odd is that the client behaves just fine on my main boxen, which is running the same exact OS version.

Oh, and the init script really needs a rewrite.

Agreed.  I've seen plenty of adequate FAHClient.system files, but that's up to the FAH team to incorporate, and I do not envy them for the mountain of workload that they have to take on.

Running Kubuntu 20.04 with backports turned on and no issues here.  Though I have been upgrading this system for a couple of years and I never clear out old packages because you never know when those old libraries will come in handy.   I have manually cleared out some of the older kernel/associated files though.

I have a friend that helps package on Kubuntu and there are a lot of issues with  20.10, I think 20.04 is fine but I am going to hold out on 20.10  until they get a few more issues corrected.

Said screw it, swapped in the i3 4330. PPD estimate bumped a little to very close to 500k with no other system changes. Need to tune in the CPU undervolts, but even so I had to move to an active cooler. Only thing I had spare was a SuperMicro 4U tower cooler, it's not very quiet so I might snag a 90mm Noctua Redux to pop on it to bring noise down even though it'll be in the basement. Maybe.

Beefy looking cooler though! And server grade supposedly! https://store.supermicro.com/4u-active-cpu-cooler-snk-p0051ap4.html

$150 a car no matter what is is in IL. Used to be $100 for a long time so I wasn't upset about the extra $50 but I could understand why some people are.

Mussed with the heatsink some, took the grill of and made it less annoying to listen to which is good enough. Currently messing with getting glances to start at boot on it's own apparently through system.d which I know little to nothing about so here's to hoping what I've done doesn't break anything and works. I tried to start the service but nothing happened so I'll reboot tomorrow and see if it starts on it's own I guess. Going to look for a better heat sink for this P106-100, not that it runs hot but one of the fans I screwed to the heat sink is rattling at lower speeds and it's very loud when the fans are ramped up at folding speeds. Fan whooshy loud not bad bearing rattling loud. I figure I better fix the fan problem before it becomes a problem. I'll see if I can snag a dead 1060 and transplant the cooler over I guess?

Edit: Ugh nevermind, they're still going for like $50 broken. Not worth it!

https://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Original-for-EVGA-GEFORCE-GTX-1060-ACX3-0-graphics-card-Fan-with-heatsink/153250039021

That might be worth it, thoughts? I think the screw holes I need are there, I'll take a closer look later tonight.

Just be happy that you are not in Serbia. 3.0L would cost you ~ 1000 EUR per year for tax. I wanted to get Camaro 6.2L imported but then I realized that I am not a charity to gift the money to this damn country.

Therefore, I'll have to settle with 2.0L until I run away with it.

Lolz  I just received and I was looking at the envelope when I opened the threat -> Vehicle registration renewal and propriety tax notice -> 587 $ and 35 cents :) for one of the cars :( probably when they will add the 2nd car - it will be the price of a brand new RTX 3080 :D

While my registration and fees aren't cheep, I'm thankful to live in a state that doesn't go stupid on them.  So glad I moved out of Cali.

In South Carolina, my taxes last year on my 2012 GMC Yukon XL Denali were $580. But my truck had just been stolen so didn't have to pay those at least!
