Why isn't Linus in YouTube Rewind?

So the YouTube Rewind video leaked this morning (as of now it's unavailable until 10 am PST). I wondered after watching it, Why isn't Linus in it? KeemStar made a good point: 

 

Some of them in the video I didn't even know made videos anymore. Instead, why doesn't YouTube pick more relevant YouTubers like Linus and Luke to be in it?

Realistically here are they really that relevant to the grand spectrum of Youtube? Techtubing is already a smaller niche and while Linus is arguably the most visible in that genre, that doesn't necessarily mean he's a top draw on Youtube.

 

 

That being said, at the end of the day, the Rewind doesn't even mean anything. I wouldn't worry about it.

Well first of all, that's just Keemstar being his salty self so I would take anything that comes out of his mouth with a grain of salt... (pun not intended). The issue is that although Linus is well known in the tech space of YouTube, tech still represents a very small percentage of YouTube's total viewership. It's mostly vloggers (ew), music producers, and little kids causing drama.

It's not even just tech tubers though. I would have like to even seen keem and a few known bloggers in it too. This is supposed to recap what's popular on YouTube in the year. I honestly hated it. My favorite one is still 2012.

Just a friendly reminder that Keemstar is still a disgusting rat of a person, but he does have a point. YouTube Rewind has devolved into who still has inside contacts to YouTube.

 they focus on dying trends and Family friendly stuff an LTT is kinda neither very good channels actually are there and what happened to YouTube every year is rarely focused on what actually happened EX last year the rise of commentary channels like Pryo, H3, and Leafy.

I can see the point that Keemstar is making but complaining like this is going to make him less likely to feature in any future YT Rewinds.

I understand that. The Paul Brothers and a few others like Phil De Franco were there. Look at Linus's channel for example he has had over 55millon views in the last month.

I agree Keem is not a good person but he has a point.

 I even saw other Youtubers that gripe about the platform be fetured in rewind. YouTube is messed up.

honestly after watch this year rewind I'm happy Linus isn't in it, it was god awful

 

Agree with him though, is some super irrelevant people in that video. 

 

What gets me more is how many of those people are so happy to be in the video instead of rather all uniting against youtube how they didn't back any of them in when the add's pulled out, and just how they have no communication with anyone from youtube. 

 

Hell, even Pewds (Love or hate him) who is the biggest youtube channel and he's said it a few times he has no idea how to contact anyone at youtube just to talk or anything.

keemstar is too controversial of a figure to be put in youtube rewind for the same reason you wouldnt want someone like Idubbbz repping the brand. not because they are bad youtubers, but all it would take would be one news piece saying "google features youtubers who yell racist slurs" and the PR would be a shit show.

 

look at pewdiepie. hes been in every rewind since 2013 i think, yet this year has been a controversial one for him and now hes not in it.

While the whole subject isn't super important, Techtubbers are important. They have had MKBHD in for a couple years now and he gets less views on average per month than LMG. While not the top, I wouldn't call LMG or techtubers irrelevant.

Sure, but I never called them irrelevant or said they aren't important. I said they weren't as popular as other things on youtube which I think is true to a certain extent. Heck and even still, they had representation with MKBHD. 

 

Also, while LMG releases more videos a month and probably has a higher combined average monthly view rate, MKBHD has been breaking a million to two million on most of his videos as of the last 4-6 months (some even have hit 3-5 mil) so visibility wise I wouldn't be surprised if he was more known. Especially because I think a lot of people that look up 'tech' related stuff right now on youtube are more interested in things like tablets and phones vs desktop PCs and custom building so for me it's not a surprise that somebody like Linus would be overlooked for somebody else. 

 

Either way, I don't think it's a big deal that Linus was excluded and techtubing was still represented at the end of the day. Sure, it would've been nice if Linus could've been in it but I don't really think it's a big deal. Plus, I wouldn't be surprised if Linus doesn't even care if he was in the video or not either.

They had a tech-tuber MKBHD; Linus has more subs and active viewers than a large portion of the people featured.

YouTube is Garbo now, none of it was actually relevant to popular videos, they just put top 10 songs over some really boring cinematography. Oh and the shooting stars meme...

I'm going to politely, but strongly disagree with all of you.  YouTube still stuck to the same formula of big content creators and trending music and trending topics.  Markiplier was in it.  Vanoss and KSI were in it.  The Slow Mo Guys and Epic Rap Battles of History were in it.  Smosh was in it.  Yeah, Felix wasn't in there, but the controversy surrounding him this year did legitimately hurt his public image.  As far as the high number of viners, R.I.P. Vine was a big thing this year.  Therefore, it would only be logical to do something like that.  And fidget spinners (as dumb as they are IMO) were HUGE this year, so they were everywhere!

 

TL;DR...maybe YouTube is starting to stray from what is actually popular, but they aren't completely off the rails yet, either.

OR, you know, maybe Linus declined. Or indicated at one time he had zero interest, because he's not pandering to 17 year olds.
