EA Sports UFC 3 Egregious Implementation of Microtransactions

*RING RING* Hello, this is EA speaking, we have a great announcement for UFC 3, we're implementing more bullshit microtransactions into our multiplayer mode! 

 

The story is coming in from https://www.astutegaming.com/single-post/EASPORTSUFC3BETA and it appears EA doesn't like to listen to its fans and swung back with a bullshit microtransaction system which borders onto egregious levels of shit. They're adding more microtransactions into their video games which is getting pretty fucking boring right now. 

 

Anyone surprised? Anyone think EA will listen?

Every single technique, ability, fighter, and stat roll, is entirely acquired and upgraded through the loot box system. A brand-new player fresh out of the tutorials, can dump $1,000 into the game, acquire the rarest loot drops and immediately jump into online competition with a beastly custom fighter that has an exceedingly large health pool, vastly improved endurance, and substantially stronger strikes than the average player who simply pays the $60 price of admission. 

UFC 3 changes this by making each of the five fighters in your team fully upgradeable solely using loot boxes, which are purchased using either its in-game currency or, you guessed it, with real money. While Star Wars Battlefront 2's loot boxes were particularly pernicious and gave players distinct advantages for forking out more cash, in UFC 3 a player can essentially make themselves untouchable by spending an exponential amount of money on the mode, equipping their fighters with abilities that dramatically increase their stats and afford them new abilities.

Haha. I would agree with Zando Bob.

 

But this shit is crazy. How the hell is this still legal? Holy hell. This is morally and ethically wrong. Thankfully I only own Mass Effect games from EA... But holy hell. Talk about destroying franchises. 

 

I wonder if UFC will intervene like Disney?

Belgium, France, UK, US with Hawaii taking the lead. Hell, China requires these type of things to have their content and odds of winning listed. Plus winners need to be listed and provided to the government, probably for taxation on winnings. I'm not to sure on China's stance in regards to gambling...

One of my friends always asks "but who would pay that..." It's amazing how some gamers only thing of things as they would do it. I know TONS of people who dump cash into games to feel superior.

At first I thought they just didn't care about gamers and were doing it for money, but now I see the truth, and it's actually stranger than that.  They don't even care about money, they just want to see the world burn, even if they go down with it.

I bought one of the first ones. It was the worst fighting game ever. Had horrible mechanics. I'd rather play Ready to Rumble any day of the week.

oh, they don't care about sales anymore. their profit on game sales is down 33% and they are happy with that. but their micro transaction sales are up nearly 3x. they now make more money off of selling less games. we need sales to tank so hard that Micro transaction sales can no longer out weight off of sales lost.

Thats the point i'm trying to make. If all they do is make games based around the inclusion of Microtransactions then people need to stop buying the games with them in.

I'd wager that they are probably betting that the joe schmos that buy madden, ufc, fifa etc year after year are not going to give a crap and buy it anyway and not rage like SW BF2 people did.  From their position they probably figure better for them to see if they can get away with it and make more money than they would have otherwise and if it turns on em again (hopefully) then maybe with a .00001% chance change.

ya, but the people that are ok with it support them more then the people that don't. the vavlue of a whale and/or dolphin could easily be worth 10x more then the average gamer. meaning that even if we might need sales drop to 20-30% of what they are now to have enough of a impact.

 

The people that spend 200+ are the people we need to have stop buying the game, some people spend more the $1000 on a single game.

Let them keep doing it, the more fuckups the more it'll reach news sources and the further their stock drops. Their stock hasn't been this low in 5-6 months.
