But yeah, I think it's clear to anyone paying attention what the true nature of this company is, so anytime they appearto be doing something even remotely good, I would be extremely suspicious and look deep for what the true reason behind it is.

This just adds to why I dont like FaceBook and its Owner.

Buuut at they are trying this time, even if the side effect is more effective targeted adverts which the obvious underlying motive.

I think we can be pretty sure that's the only motive and the suicide scanning thing is just an afterthought they did to make it look good.  After all, it does look a lot better than "Facebook upgrades post scanning AI to target ads to you better"

Fortunately the only detail I remember is having a 3 page debate about facebook's targeted ads and the nature of depression/anxiety.  It was not good.

hmmmm this is somewhat a good idea, If there's anything we've learned about current AI recently, is that it has a tendency to screw up massively, affecting huge amounts of people that normally wouldn't even be considered if any human was going through it.

i think one day this kind of help is gonna turn into : "recommending drugs for depression" 

and facebook is gonna make a shit ton of money from those pharmaceutical company.

I Think the way it would work is stuff like that will prompt the red flag but usually people considering Suicide tend to think long on it and can be seen at the back of their minds even though they are doing something else. 

What I'm assuming is something as blatant as that will be flagged and then further investigation into the persons profile will happen. But it would look for other subtle identification from past posts and that will prove or deny if its serious or not. Most that would happen in blatant things like that would be Local Police get informed or friends do. Which isn't bad either way as Police will only respond as once it get drastic while a friend will respond immediately which isn't bad if it was a false alarm.
