Sorry but I am gonna laugh here lol ... This was not going to last, matter of fact it lasted longer than I thought it would.

First it was Google, Then MS, now Amazon. Who is next to try this stunt Apple? oh yes it will be so they can Innovate a better way ...

damn, im paying like 3 bucks a month for 100GB on google drive, lets see if this is viable

Amazon says users taking advantage of the unlimited storage deal who don’t want to start paying for one of the new plans will have 180 days to download or delete their data. After that grace period, Amazon will start deleting content for them (starting with most recent uploads) until the account falls within the new limits.

I'm probably one of the people to blame for this, I backed up my 30TB NAS on their service lol

Reading this makes me so happy that I never got around to move from Jottacloud to Amazon, as now I would have had to move back again.

This sucks so much! For the last year I've been treating my Amazon cloud like an external hard drive. Every camera dump, every Photoshop project, every document, all my files are there. Most of them only there. I have multiple TBs, I believe 4 or 5 right now. This is absolutely ridiculous! 

 

How dare they try to make money off of me! I want me cheap all you can eat data storage, because I 'eat' too much! At $60/yr having 4 TB of stuff there made sense. Figure another 4 TB each year that's cheaper than local storage options and safer. But at $300/yr I might as well buy two HDDs and run them in RAID for safety. It would be faster and cheaper.

I'm also the same kinda person who uses 600+ GB of cellular data in a month.

 

30 TB is mighty impressive though, how long did that take to upload?

they only allocate about 200TB per account you would have to contact support when you get close.

I can see that setting the virtual drive to 200TB would cover most people. I am not sure if they would expand it or get all freaked out and not give you more.

what sucks for me is mine ends September so I only have 2-3 months left. ;-;

It only took me 2-3 months to get 6TB uploaded. now I am looking into other services and going to rent a VPS to transfer the data faster. my shitty 13Mbps upload from crapcast is not good enough.

I mean I use carbonite, which is unlimited for $60 a year. (Which also backs up your phone for free as well)

It's pretty nice, been with them for years, but the backup client doesn't handle downloads well. As in, if I download a multi GB file to one of the folders the backup client is monitoring, you usually need to restart the backup client for it to successfully upload it. 
Their plan in €7.5 per month/€75 per year, and I get upload speeds at around 150-200Mbps per file (to files at a time) now. They recently removed the clause that stated 10TB to be "overuse", and just changed it to be more general. So basically "If we feel like you overuse our service, we'll tell you, but there is not specific limit on TB you can use". 

 

Edit: Also their servers are located in Norway, so the data is protected by Norwegian law, not US.

Lol just get an unlimited plan from google. We get it with our school and some kid has over 300TBs of the same file copied and pasted over and over just to fill space

you know google and most file storage would used file duplication protection were it will show both files but only 1 copy is saved.

even windows server has that feature for its Storage Spaces.

ya the interface may say that but it probably only uses a little more then the file size of the file to store all 300TBs. I wouldn't be surprised if they even do that with data that is uploaded by multiple users. for example people uploading windows ISOs.

Prime gives you unlimited photo storage and they even honor .psd, .tiff, .dng and your various SOOC raw files.

EDIT: I like the way permacoin white paper laid it out better were your data is more spread apart for greater retention. and your data is in a raid 5 like setup so if some is lost it can still be restored
