The Varmilo VA87M showed up on Massdrop offering Greys as an option so I couldn't say no to that. Then they ran the aluminum case for it and got that too, with some grey blank PBTs.

As I said, I'd love something heavier as I bottom out consistently, but sadly that is unlikely to ever happen. I'll probably stick with this board for awhile, though I'm due to change my caps. Probably move to the Galaxy Class blanks I have.

MX greens is life. Second is MX clears.

Currently using Gateron clears, after usng MX blues for nearly 2 years. Totally different feeling between the two, I love the gaterons for gaming, but typing out essays and code on the mx blues is a lot more satisfying.

I voted for gaterons because that's what I use every day, and likely will for the forseeable future, but MX blues are certainly a top switch type to me.

I like the feel of the blues, but they are too loud for me, so browns it is.

 

I don't like linear switches such as the reds.

I've had my Logitech G610 with MX Browns for a little over a year now, and I've also modded it with o-rings and that's been going on for a couple weeks now, and I just tried typing on my laptop the other day (which had always been my favourite keyboard) and I have to say, it's still my favourite.  I know I'm in the minority but I prefer a very small travel, and the feel of it is just really nice.  It's not extremely mechanical and clicky compared to an actual mech keyboard, but if I had to rate it on a scale from mushy to clicky, it does score strongly on the clicky side.

 

With that in mind, let me also say that I've used membranes before (who hasn't?) and never really had much of an issue with them, until I got my G610 and now I can't see myself ever going back ,they really do feel like crap

I quite like Gateron Blues, but Cherry MX Blues are just as good pretty much. Cherry MX Browns are good too.

Apparently Gateron Browns are even better due to a clearer tactile click.

I've only used scissor switches, membrane, and MX Reds, though looking at specs and comparing them to the MX Reds, I'd probably like blacks or clears a bit more. (Not a fan of the click that blues and greens have, and I'd like something a little stiffer than the MX Reds, it's too easy to accidentally press a key...)

 

I do kinda like scissor switches too, though that depends on the keyboard.

I'm not a fan of blues due to their design, when you bottom out it feels kind of 'rattly', this is obviously due to their click jacket being made too loose. They also have a rather annoying high pitched sound (although that's subjective)

 

Browns on the other hand just aren't tactile enough for tactile switches, they feel like dirty linears compared to Zealios (my favourite tactile switch), although I've been moving away from tactile switches recently. Thank god I have a hotswap board

 

MX browns and MX blues aren't bad switches, they're miles better than rubber domes but there are much better alternatives that aren't that hard to get hold of.

Voted Blue because that is what I use but want something quieter, Browns are slightly less tactile so it's a difficult area. Membrane keyboards if you get a decent model, at least IMO can be decent.

No are they the inbetween Brown and Blues? When I brought my keyboard Cherry hadn't released them so I never looked, will do a google now they might be worth thinking about when I change keyboard.

They are similar to Browns but with a much more noticeable bump and also require more actuation force

I voted Cherry MX browns because that's what I have, but I'm not the best judge because I've only really tried Razer Greens (obnoxiously clicky), some form of unspecified MX brown knock off (which I actually liked the feel of and is why I went Cherry brown but it actually felt smoother than the Cherries which I find to be quite scratchy) and Romer Gs.  I don't think Romer Gs deserve as much hate as they get, but with that said I can't say I loved them.

 

Maybe one day I'll venture into more interesting switch territory...

 

I do like the browns, but they're definitely more satisfying to type on fast than slowly...

 

I wish there were some shops around here with mech boards on display...

I think they are good but the bump isn't noticeable enough.
