I got a MX Brown Strafe after coming from a shitty MS membrane.

I also code (probably on a much lower scale, I'm in high school lol), type homework assignments, and LTT. I liked the feel of Blues, but the noise kills me, even typing for 30 seconds at Best Buy was a pain. I tried a Red keyboard (K65) next to the Blue one (K70) and since Browns are in between (quiet as reds, bump from blues, and actuation force of 50g IIRC) I thought OK, let me try those. Ordered my Strafe for $69 on Black Friday... haven't looked back!

 

Reds are fun, but I've heard they are fatiguing for typing. Browns are great for typing, so are Blues if you can bear/enjoy the extra noise.

Right now my favorite is hands-down MX Reds. But I'd love to get my hands on an older Dell Quietkey keyboard that has Alps switches. I have the membrane little brother and that honestly has my second-favorite membrane "switches" (first place goes to my Latitude E4300).

Voted Cherry MX Brown, but I'd like to note I like keyboards that also include the dampening rubber o-rings too. This is why I bought 2 Logitech G710 plus keyboards for our desktops at home, and have advised an additional 4-5 friends to also purchase the same keyboards for general purpose gaming and programming/typing work. They all did get a chance to try things like the Razer Deathstalker and Corsair K70, but found the switches in those keyboards too loud for their use.

I'm honestly tied between MX Blues and MX Browns. I love both, but ATM I'm still using membrane (and a crappy membrane at that. One of the shit Dell keyboards).

Gonna have to go with Reds.  Used to have browns and I loved them, but MX reds are just so smooth and IMO they are much more fluid for gaming.  I dont mind typing on them at all, still 10x better than typing on membranes.

i have to say browns. 

this is my first mechanical keyboard but after doing some research i decided on browns as the keyboard i needed for uni for programming (k95 rgb) had either red or brown.

glad i went for brown as the bump is good for typing but unlike blues you dont get punished for bottoming out as it is a smooth actuation

Gateron Clears for the ultra light actuation force on games like osu! but regular use I would prefer Gateron Reds over Cherry MX Reds because of the smoothness.

Then this will really trigger them. I'd rather use a membrane than an MX Brown board. If I'm getting a mushy, undefinitive experience, I want short keystrokes.

 

I'll probably take my K95 Plat in to swap the inferior switches for MX Blues.

I'd probably prefer the cheapest Chinese knock off board with decent membranes over an MX Brown.

Voted Clear. Current board is MX Tactile Greys. If rated, I'd probably put them:

 

1. Tactile Greys
2. Clears
3. Green

Given that Tactile Greys are almost impossible to get, and Clears are pretty rare too, as much as I'd like something heavier than those, I'd imagine I'm out of luck.

Agreed. Up to that point, I had a Das Ultimate with Blues, a Poker II with Blues, Quickfire TK with Greens, Quickfire with Browns, and a KeyCool with Clears. 

The Varmilo VA87M showed up on Massdrop offering Greys as an option so I couldn't say no to that. Then they ran the aluminum case for it and got that too, with some grey blank PBTs.

As I said, I'd love something heavier as I bottom out consistently, but sadly that is unlikely to ever happen. I'll probably stick with this board for awhile, though I'm due to change my caps. Probably move to the Galaxy Class blanks I have.
