Samsung to release a truly foldable smartphone

Samsung rumered to release a truly fordable smartphone in 2017, the Samsung galaxy X.  This could also open up the way for massive phones that are like a tablet,  but that can then be folded down to a smaller,  pocket size that is easier to carry.

I doubt it's what people are making it out to be. It'll probably be something like the W2016 (but without the dual screens?) and only be sold in Asia or something...

For start to show foldable display and battery. Either way it will be interesting to see the initial folsable smartphone.

I just want my slider phones back. The LG Shine was an unrequited love that ended when I fell on it when walking to school during winter.

 

Blackberry had the right idea. I wish more people (Microsoft, Google, ...) adopt it.

Doubt it.

Why would any of those bits be folded? The main parts that need to be foldable are the screen and the body. Pretty sure they can split the internals where half are on one side, half are on the other.

 

I'm thinking this will be like a fancy DS. No buttons and small bezel, but has a screen on each side and a hinge where it folds.

I used to have a Samsung that did the same thing about 8 years ago...

They do not need to. PCB with other stuff can fit in one side of the phone and battery in the other side. Cables will connect them and Display will fold, without breaking.

This is awesome! much bigger Samoled Displays in same size or less then today :)

Foldable is when you can roll the entire thing up in any way you want, like one of those little rubber keyboards. Otherwise it's a fancy flip phone, nothing more.

no, roll-able would be like one of those rubber keyboards. foldable just means it can be folded at least once.

Maybe it would be roll-able. Both Samsung and LG showed that they can make screens that can roll up like a paper. In those cases the majority of the hardware is sectioned off to one part of the screen at the end.

Rolling it is probably what they are going for, and that would mean having a 15" screen folded in your pocket. You could then have a tablet mode and a phone mode altogether.
