QUICK! Go Uninstall Quicktime for PCs! Because DHS said so.......

The United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has found bugs in Apple's QuickTime software and apparently apple couldn't give 2 shits because they stopped supporting QuickTime for Windows.

 

As a result of this, DHS warns Windows users to uninstall the software to mitigate the damages.

The Department of Homeland Security has advised that PC owners uninstall Apple's QuickTime for Windows, after two vulnerabilities were discovered in its code. Because Apple is no longer updating the Windows version of the software, the DHS says "the only mitigation" is to remove the software entirely, or else risk "loss of confidentiality, integrity, or availability of data, as well as damage to system resources or business assets."

The government's advice echoes that offered by security firm Trend Micro, whose Zero Day Initiative first noted the two QuickTime for Windows vulnerabilities. The company says it's not aware of any successful attacks that have used the security holes so far, but says that because Apple will not be issuing any patches to close them, they'll remain inviting to malicious attacks from here on out.

This is funny, since every 3 boots I get a window telling me to update iTunes and QuickTime.

 

And here's an idea people: Block the fucking thing with your firewall. It isn't fucking complicated lmao

Think WMP, but just Apple'd.

 

The OS X version is honestly quite nice (although not as tweakable as VLC), but the Windows version is honestly a tad worse than WMP in some respects.

 

But, iTunes and AE want it, so I keep it. :P

Never installed it in the first place, so it doesn't affect me. Still, apple needs to keep their software in check. Atleast adobe will release an emergency update to flash, even though flash should be entirely removed from computers and websites (go html 5).

Who the fuck uses Quicktime?! Even fully updated on a Mac it's a pile of shit.

 

VLC is the only way to go.

 

I run my browser through NSA ports to make their illegal jobs easier. :P

I have not used Quicktime sense like Windows Vista or XP... No issues here.

I haven't installed it in years, i think the codec is part k-lite codec pack, and other codec packs too.

I saw this news the other day and have been trying to figure out WTF to do. I tried to not install QuickTime on my video editing rig when I built it, but nothing worked right in Premiere so I had to give in. Fucking Apple.

QuickTime used to always be installed if you wanted iTunes. I was wondering when I installed iTunes (for music transfers because I have an iPhone) on my new Windows 10 PC last month why it didn't include QuickTime anymore. Good thing, I use VLC Media Player anyway.

Will most likely come an update/software from Adobe and other companies, that ether removes Quicktime or gives us an option that is updated. Since it is a professional video tool after all.
