How are the temps in that thing?

 

They aren't that bad actually.

 

My 970 is at 39 C when the fan is running at 875 ish at idle but i'm worried about the HDD that's sitting metal side down on closed cell foam that came with the GPU and the 300W stock psu that's probably slowly killing my 970.

 

EDIT: Soon I might be laser or plasma cutting either a plastic or steel case. I have to finish CADing it and I'll release the files on a thread on here.

So, I just had to use tape to secure a SATA cable on an SSD, because the plastic from the connector had snapped off and was stuck inside the SATA cable's socket.

My aio cooler and fans wouldnt both fit in my case, sincr the fans were blocking the ram sticks :

Fix : i put the fans outside the case, in full view, pretty ugly with connectora coming out of side panel

Using bluetack to connect the replacement bulb for my Tecra M5 to the adapter made from the original bulb so I could connect the new bulb to the inverter. It worked quite well too until I dropped the laptop.

I cable tied 2 extra fans to the Cooler Master V8 CPU heatsink, 1 on either side.  The cable ties were extended with another cable tie, and it made a round trip around the cooler, having both extra fans on the same cable tie loop.

Case front door feel off due to broken hinge. Took bamboo skewer, cut it down to size to fix hinge.

Until recently (when I figured out how to use my HDD mounting rack in my case) I had 3 HDDs mounted using zip ties...Basically I made two loops to slide them into. Not exactly safe.

I had a Cooler Master Centurion 532 (old case model) and i wanted to fit more than 2 hard drives in it. So i picked up an old crappy BFG pc case at a garage sale (for 10 bucks). Looking inside that case, i saw a HDD bay that holds just what i needed. After i gutted out the main case for cleaning, i ripped out the old HDD bay (which had 2 slots) and the floppy disk bay (who uses that nowadays?) with my bare hands. Took the new HDD bay, ripped that out and measured everything. After screwing the hard drives inside the new bay, i just pressure fitted it in and there you have it. A ghetto HDD bay upgrade. :D

They definitely can detach very easily if the plastic or clip is damaged due to little to no grip.

i tried to blow the motor in my pos geo metro back in the day..  was going 70~ and dropped it into 1st while punching the gas pedal.

 

i though i blew the motor, and had an instant.. WTF did i do that!?  i popped the hood open and noticed the fuse box smoking.. i popped that open pulled the smoking fuse, and jammed a dime into the fuse slot.. the car started and ran better than ever with a dime jammed into the fuse box... i sold the car with the dime still in the fuse box (buyer was informed about the dime before purchase)

Don't know if this is really a ghetto fix but here we go:

 

Over a year ago a friend gave me a broken up HP SFF tower computer. He told me it "wouldn't turn on". I managed to get the computer working by clearing the CMOS. I asked him if he wanted the computer back and he said I could keep it. At the time I was trying to get the money together for a gaming PC and was looking for old computer parts. After going to HPs website and looking up the specs for this machine it can take up to a core 2 quad q9650 (A pretty good CPU) and up to 8GB of RAM. I wanted to use this PC so bad as my gaming PC but the problem is the case didn't support a full height graphics card (I wanted to get a 750 ti). I didn't know what to do about it but I figured out a soloution, mount everything in the tower it to a piece of plywood:

Yes, that right there is an entire OEM computer with proprietary components mounted on a piece of plywood and hanging from the ceiling. This is the machine I gamed on for about 6 months until I could afford a real gaming PC. This was my old setup:

Yes I know it looks terrible and super ghetto but it WORKS. And I only spent like $100 on the entire build.

Over the years This PC has been retured to the basement and is now my work computer. I use that PC to do homework and essays because I tend not to get as distracted on it. 

The current specs of this PC include:

Intel core 2 quad q9550

8GB DDR2 800MHz

AMD radeon HD 5450 (I sold the GTX 750 ti because I no longer use this machine for gaming and just needed video output)

128GB sandisk SSD

80GB Hitachi HDD

proprietary HP power supply

HP compaq dc7800 motherboard

 

I don't know if this can be considered a ghetto fix but I guess it was in the sense that I took proprietary componets and got them to work with industry standards. Anyway, just wanted to share that with everyone :)

lol, I'm giggling to myself for this. (not pc related). On my snowmobile, the main drive shaft bearing, on the right side of the hull, had worn out and was spinning on the shaft. I removed the shaft (involves removing a lot of stuff, track, suspension, gear case, hood, engine, fuel tank etc), and hit the bearing off of it with a hammer. The bearing had grinded a good part of the drive shaft away so i needed to fix that. I used a ton of duct tape (the metal kind) and soaked it in cyanoacrylate glue ( dental crasy glue), then wrapped that around the worn shaft to build it up. 

 

Basically, i have one of the most important bearings on my snowmobile, held on by crazy glue and duct tape.  :D

 

Its been abused for 3 winters now, and has yet to fail.

Due to a broken SATA Connection on a hard drive I soldered a SATA Cable Directly onto the connectors. Works like a charm :)

i had the same problem with my SSD, but i just put a piece of metal on top of it so it won't bend out of it's way. too lazy to make pics since my network switch is currently living on top of my PC, and i would have to relocate it to take the panels off.

You have serious trust in your own ghetto fix, I'd never ride on something that I'd fixed in a dodgy way.

worst thing that can happen is that the bearing would fail again. That would just result in a lose drive shaft, resulting in slipping of the track. They are designed to not fall out.
