What's so bad about the Cherry MX Reds for typing?

I mean, I was just wondering. How are they, and namely what is it that people don't like about them? I don't like tactile feedback too much for gaming and I currently own a Khail switch Razer Blackwidow. I much prefer my friend's reds for gaming, but I've not had a chance typing on them.

 

I type quite rarely, because I much prefer writing (plus my cursive has to really improve) on paper. But I am beginning to learn HTML and some Javascript, so what is it about these Red switches people hate so much for typing? I like the cushioned feel of rubber domes but DETEST having to bottom out.

I use them for gaming and typing my Uni stuff, I dont see an issue with them at all.

They are not bad, maybe just not as good?

I have reds and they are fine for me when typing.

Purely preference.

I have a friend who thinks the keys are too sensitive and he tends to actuate keys unintentionally when typing, but I think he is just a sloppy typer.  :P

When typing you tend to press harder so they bottom out all the time and are sorta loud it you do that. Other than that it is just people that aren't used to it or preference

When typing you tend to press harder so they bottom out all the time and are sorta loud it you do that. Other than that it is just people that aren't used to it or preference

People coming from membrane/rubber domes tend to bottom out all the time

Because they are linear, it's very easy to accidentally press keys when typing. You can get used to them tough, in time.

Thing I dont like about linear switches like red or blacks is that I need to bottom out to get feedback that the key has actually been actuated.  They are very quiet and with no bump the feedback is very low, slowing down my typing.

now for gaming, this is great.  no bump slowing down multi keypresses and no sound distracting you.

It's preference. I personally hate reds. I feel like I'm constantly accidentally pressing keys when I don't mean to. I'm looking for a nice backlit board with blacks/clears at them moment.

God knows what that person was thinking when he got Cherry MX Reds for typing, and liked it. Color? Feel? Responsiveness? Silenceness? Maybe even the brand of the keyboard itself? Maybe it was the price at the time? Like, there is a LOT to consider why you think they prefer Reds to type lol. That's why I simply answered "Preference".

I was told that up until abuot 5th grade. Was told "in middle school you're FORCED to write in cursive." So far, I'm halfway through high school and I haven't had a single teacher comment on my non-cursive handwriting...

To OP, the switch preference generally strays away for reds for typing. I LOVE reds for gaming but I prefer to type on greens. That doesn't mean that reds are bad for typing though - it just means that somebody with heavy hands and likes tactile feedback such as myself wouldn't want to use reds on a daily basis.
