What's so bad about the Cherry MX Reds for typing?

Zombater

Yeah, just dump that skill from your brain along with the majority of useless stuff you learn in primary education. You'll learn more online than you ever will in school until college.

I mean, I was just wondering. How are they, and namely what is it that people don't like about them? I don't like tactile feedback too much for gaming and I currently own a Khail switch Razer Blackwidow. I much prefer my friend's reds for gaming, but I've not had a chance typing on them.

I type quite rarely, because I much prefer writing (plus my cursive has to really improve) on paper. But I am beginning to learn HTML and some Javascript, so what is it about these Red switches people hate so much for typing? I like the cushioned feel of rubber domes but DETEST having to bottom out.

I have reds as my daily driver right now (K95) and although i do prefer blues for typing (Just ordered a WASDkeyboard with blues) I dont seem to have any problem with them for typing for the most part...The only complaint is if you kind of slide your fingers across the keyboard you can accidentally  actuate keys you didnt mean to press, also if you are typing quickly blues are nice because you have a definite "click" so you know you pressed the keys, with reds sometimes i will be typing and wont push down a key all the way and slows me down sometimes, but overall I don't mind it and you get used to it.

To OP, the switch preference generally strays away for reds for typing. I LOVE reds for gaming but I prefer to type on greens. That doesn't mean that reds are bad for typing though - it just means that somebody with heavy hands and likes tactile feedback such as myself wouldn't want to use reds on a daily basis.

Ouch... typing on greens? Did you have to do finger pressups and that?

I only ever chill on this page: http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/34813-experiences-with-non-techies/

They aren't as heavy as people make them out to be. i have heavy hands by definition, but when my hands are cold as fack (like they are now, freezing cold outside WOW!) I type pretty lightly and it isn't hard to type on them.

Personally I find reds too squishy and ambiguous...like there's a hundred little pillows underneath the keys.
