Jailbreaking never really went away. It died down in popularity around IOS9 because Apple was adding features people used to jailbreak for so there was no need. Every IOS version just gets better and the introduction of the file system really leaves not a lot to be asked for. Sure if you are the kind to tinker there are tons of things missing and it really is fun to have a little linux machine in your pocket but for the average Joe it really isn't worth voiding AppleCare, the security risks, and inherit risk of bricking a $1200 phone

I mostly use a stack of smaller tweaks to clean up the OS a little. Also reccomend yoinking the Zebra package manager, it's a much nicer UI and UX than Cydia (some tweaks will still only install properly from Cydia though, so worth trying them from there if they don't work in Zebra). Oh also Zebra lets you mass-add repos which is so much nicer than the very repetitive one by one method Cydia uses.

They left in some vulnerability that lets stuff execute at the kernel level or something like that, it has been fixed in iOS 13.5.1 though, so don't upgrade to that if you wanna jailbreak. And turn off automatic updates so it won't do it for you.

I have an iPad Mini that I keep jailbroken whenever I can that was still on an older version and while watching the video figured I'd update - started the OTA update without paying much attention then Linus said there was now 13.5.1 that fixes it... "ohshit" moment. Powered off ASAP before the download finished, got the ipsw and did the manual update, crisis averted.

I feel that the jailbreak "era" is kind of coming back. Just look at the r/jailbreak subreddit. There you can see the new modern tweaks that developers are making nowadays, and it all looks very promising. The one problem though (among a few others) is how apple is treating jailbroken devices, as mentioned in BackGup's reply.

There, 2 devices done uneventfully. It's the most polished jailbreak I've seen, very nice.

 

I agree there seems to be a regain of interest especially in the dev community, new sources, new tweaks... There have been a few very dull years where nothing new was coming out and more importantly all the existing stuff was abandoned and breaking and falling into disrepair.

 

It seems Apple have let a few big things slip recently, might have a lot to do. As MVG says, "mistakes were made"... having the newest device on the newest OS broken that quick hasn't happened in a long while.

Do send a little something if you enjoyed too to encourage things to continue on that track :) Remember Apple will pay significant sums of money to devs if they report vulns to Apple confidentially instead of making use of them, so people making tools for us to enjoy our devices better effectively pass on some good money, it's nice if they can get it back from the users, with hopefully more.

How do I fix this? My offload unused apps is already turned on and I don't know what it means by my limit has been reached.

Hello, need some help, so i tried this, when cydia was installed i clicked on it and it crashed, so i thought i never worked and went to start again so i went to plug in my phone and it wasn't detecting my pc, vise versa, so i factory reset my phone, uncover was gone etc but cydia is still there and i doont know how to get rid of it any help?

 

*update* i fixed it, was a big hassle and panic, but that is me never jail breaking again
