dog thread

LukeSavenije

Yes! A dog thread. :D Pretty sure there have been animal/pet threads before, but nice to see one just for dogs. ;)

These are our children, Moses & Olivia. They're pitbull american bulldog mixes and are about 1.5yrs old (born Aug 1st 2017). They're super-friendly and love to meet other people and dogs. Despite their body language (wagging tail and wiggling with joy), people will actually cross the street to avoid them, just because they "look scary". We had chihuahua's before these guys and they were actually vicious to strangers and would bite at your ankles, lol. These guys though, will just knock you over and lick you to death. Sad how they are perceived, but they also help keep unwanted people off our farm property. ;)

From their 1st birthday last year:

You can take a look at all of the Tech that I own and have owned over the years in my About Me section and on my Profile.

I'm Swiss and my Mother language is Swiss German of course, I speak the Aargauer dialect. If you want to watch a great video about Swiss German which explains the language and outlines the Basics, then click here.

If I could just play Videogames and consume Cool Content all day long for the rest of my life, then that would be sick.

I wouldn't.... they look really friendly to my eyes, but I had a berner sennen, canadian shepherd and now a newfoundlander/canadian shepherd, so I'm used to some bigger dogs...

isn't that what cats do?

dogs give you attention, barks, licks and you can actually do what you say

Yep but that is their way to show their affection to us..such as planting their claws into our body or show their butthole right in front of your face..So if you're not a masochist then don't get a cat for your pet..

Dogs have owners, cats have staff.

In other news, this is Glen, my parents dog:

Spoiler

y4m7GvYENwGad_yVW2eOfrTLnPMY_Ou0OMtcgDd6

His propensity for enjoying playing with rocks has had an adverse effect on his teeth (of which he has few left), hence the sticky out tongue. The disaster that are his teeth don't seem to bother him as he really likes chewing up ice cubes.

In his younger days he had a habit of periodically receiving new instructions from the mothership (he'd stop dead and start at the lights in the livingroom for a few seconds then go on about his business).

Border collie in case you can't tell.

Actually, it's not unusual for single women to have large dogs for protection. Even if the dog is a sweetheart, most people would be afraid to mess with the woman because of the size of the dog.

Quite the opposite, I never seen a woman alone with a large dog. I see couples with two very large huge dogs, or even just men.

I've seen and known many women who had large dogs. One friend used to have a chow/shepard mix who was built like a bulldozer. Nobody ever messed with my friend while she had that dog. In fact, I was the only one the dog would allow to trim her nails (even then, it took me an hour because because I would have to calm her down after I clipped a nail, even though I didn't hit the quick). That saved my friend a lot of money since she would otherwise have to take the dog to the vet to have her nails trimmed and the vet would have to anesthetize the dog because they were afraid of her (the dog, not my friend).

So... Reality depends on your perception?

While I couldn't find any studies that can confirm nor deny the claim of ownership of large dogs among single women, I could find one website specifically recommending larger dogs to single women: https://pethelpful.com/dogs/five-dog-breeds-for-women-living-alone

Larger dogs = more money spent on food = more energy that requires to be exhausted = larger shits that need to be cleaned up = bigger toys = larger mats = perhaps higher cost of grooming/vet bills/insurance.
