except the user - like you - will complain to the company once you're 'hacked', meaning the requirements they set for making a password help both you and themselves too, through having less silly customer service tickets.

I thought this thread would be the other way around. websites having 'maximum' requirements on passwords.
for example, a website I recently made an account for has a max character limit on passwords of 20. wut?? that's quite short.
that is not even the worst though they also don't allow for many special characters, but do not mention this! they only - on the next step - mention "there is something wrong". I had to find some forum post, where someone mentioned illegal characters in a password.

that makes it even worse. first they have a low character limit and then you can't even make your password complicated and are basically restricted to:
    - lower case letters
    - upper case letters
    - numbers
    - couple special character (?,!, - and _ if I recall correctly)

Had so much fun making this build. The Meshify C is such a great case, it's so flexible, I really used it to it's full potentional. Very happy with the EVGA RTX 3080 FTW3.The undervolt performance is really impressive, about a drop 1-2% fps in exchange for 12°C less. Also much less fan noise. Also spent lots of time on cable management to get a clean look on GPU PCIe cables.

Meganter reacted to Moonzy in Build Log - Miney
Ayo, welcome to my Miney's build log!
It's name is Miney because it's my mining rig, it will be Miney 01 if I decide to expand into more rigs, we shall see where this goes!
This will be my 3rd main PC, alongside Desky and Beddie (very self explanatory names)

Miney was actually in use back when I was mining on 2x 1070 and 1x 2070S, while I used my GTX970 in my main rig, but I decided to move everything onto my main rig to save on electricity as idle CPU and other parts still consume power.

Since I'm adding more GPU now, Desky ran out of PCIE slot, so I'm bringing it back!
It's also actually been a hassle to pause certain GPU and CPU cores if I wanna game on Desky, so the migration is nice.

    Parts:
    Old stuffs:
Core 2 Duo from my old old home PC, mining doesn't need a lot of CPU horsepower so it's good enough 2x2GB + 2x1GB DDR2 RAM + Gigabyte EP45-UD3R are given to me by a friend who bought a new PC. Casing is from my old home PC, I actually modded it slightly so it fits longer GPU if plug in directly into the board (removed the drive cage) 120GB Patriot Burst SSD was bought when I first built Miney.
    New stuff:
Corsair HX1000 PSU was ordered online for $250 (MYR 998) RTX 3090 MSI Gaming X Trio was ordered for $2000 (MYR 8299) 2x RTX 3060 Ti iChill  each was $550 (MYR 2299) RTX 3060 Ti TUF was bought at $650 (MYR 2599) 4x PCIE 1x to 16x Riser was bought for $3.50 ea (MYR 14.79)
    Photos:

    The Build:
I actually livestreamed the build process for funsies, but it's a silent stream of me (I don't talk much) just fiddling with PC stuffs, don't judge my poor man's stream setup

The motherboard is screwed into the casing already from previous build, so I just have to start building from there

But first, I plugged in the modular cables, and boy there's a ton that I need:
    2x Sata Chain
    5x PCIE 2x6+1-pin
    1x 24-pin
    1x CPU 8-pin
    1x Molex (added after)

Left = not used, Right = used (I took out 2 Sata chain too many, wanted one sata harness for each GPU but eh, didnt go that route)

BUT if you're familiar with the HX1000, you may say "ey, that PSU only comes with 4 PCIE power harness"
and you're right, I actually had to use one from a RM850i that I used for a friend's build, he didn't want to keep the spare cables so more for me!
Corsair PSU mostly used the same modular cable: https://www.corsair.com/us/en/psu-cable-compatibility

Plugging in the cables before inserting into the case because spacing is very tight!

Using all of the 8-pin 12V rail of the PSU lol

    -swings magic wand-

It is assembled! only took me 30 minutes haha
If you noticed, the PCIE riser doesn't have their foam on the bottom
I've seen foam like that cause fire so I'm not taking my chance
I make sure nothing touches the PCB so there's no risk of shorts.

I made sure it posted in stream before I turned the stream off for further diagnosing (more on this later)

    Diagnosis, Performance + Tuning:
It posted but problems start appearing, it wouldn't enter into Windows and it kept BSOD-ing (Boot drive error)
Long story short, I swapped boot drive to another group of SATA port and it worked.

I ensured all 4 GPUs were detected by the system.

Then I proceeded to move Miney back to its nest, my ancient 20 year old computer table that have a spot for CRT monitors, Miney sits in that hole.

If you have keen eyes, you'll notice that the 3090 is standing upright instead of laying down as in the previous pictures.
That is because while I'm running tests on it, it seemed to show odd behaviour such as fan spinning up to 100% even though the GPU core temps are way below 70c, I spent some time diagnosing, and noticed that clocks were weird, and made a status update about it.
Turns out, the 3080 and 3090, specifically the GDDR6X modules on these GPU run REALLY hot
    TechPowerup, Nicehash Blog
So I stood the 3090 up and place a fan blowing directly on the backplate
It didn't lower the temps(108-110c), but the card did not thermal throttle much anymore.
The backplate temp was 48-50c, measured on my taped on thermal probe without paste, hot enough to burn your skin.

Well someone once said that if a GPU is inadequately designed, Miners are the first to know
I never relate more to that statement now haha
So anyone wanting to buy a card with G6X , especially ones with modules on back of PCB, pay close attention to the cooling for them.

Final look, it ain't pretty but it works!

Get a personal rave party upstairs with all dat RGB *-*

I stayed beside it for ~2 hour to monitor it, make sure it reach equilibrium (and not on fire hahahaha) and probed few location temps, namely PSU intake and exhaust temps because I don't want my HX1000 to die.
The intake temp is 40-41c. exhaust is warm at 45-47c, it's warm but it's rated for 50c so I'm not too worried.

    Performance of the rig:

    Closing comment + Future ideas:
Why did i go for a 3090? Well let's say that no other GPU that made sense were available, 3060 Ti prices were jacked up to $1000 by the time I'm shopping for more (and have to import from China, so no local warranty) and the 3080 just doesn't exist anywhere.
I actually preferred if it was a 3080 instead of a 3090, but 3080 that I found were $1250 + I had to buy a full system along with it, pushing the price over a 3090.

So the 3090 at double the hash rate of 3060 Ti at double the price makes decent sense, to me anyways.
It does have less perf/watt, but it's not too bad, 240W on 2x 3060 ti vs ~300W on a 3090.
Plus, I get to play with a 3090, I'll probably never get to have another good reason to buy top end GPU to have fun with anymore, so yea.

Right now I can fit in 3 more GPU without making Miney 02, so it'll be a while before I buy another rig to replace Beddie, which will become Miney 02.
I'm looking to buy more GPU as I go, hope it goes well  Play-by-ear.

Given that the 3090 is running at (personally feeling) non-ideal conditions, I probably won't sell it because I cant't guarantee its well-being in the long term.
So it'll probably stay with me for a very long time.

How far can I feel the heat of this machine? Let's just say my entire upstairs living room feels warm when I come up the stairs.
But it's not the only contributor as Desky is also mining at around ~300W in the same area.
But no one stays in this space so it's all good.

I guess that's it for now, thanks for reading this long ass build log!

Update 1 (1 day): My living room temp raised from 25c to 28c, it's noticeably warmer, and if i probe higher, it reaches 29c haha
the rig is operating as expected, very pleased with it

Update 2 (2 days): added one 80mm fan on rear as intake to provide fresh air to PSU, and added another 120mm to pull exhaust of PSU away from the rear fan, it works quite well
PSU intake drop from 41c to 37c.
Though I think it affects the fan that I use to cool my 3090 backplate so I'll do further testings

Hey everyone! So I decided to sell my trusty Ps4 and get back into PC gaming. What you see below is the finished product since I unfortunately didn't own a camera until just a few days or so ago. I finished building the PC a few weeks ago but I had totally forgot about the LTT forum.
QUICK DISCLAIMER: I just want to point out that I am aware of the shitty cable management both inside and outside the computer. I set up everything perfectly only for the motherboard to stop working and had to send it back and RMA it. I then set up my entire streaming rig and so after doing cable management three times and then have to tear it down again because of my installing new pc parts or setting up something I've decided to leave it like this until I know I'm not going to fiddle around with it anymore.

And secondly, I just got my camera and I'm not very good with it so I apologize if some of the pictures are a bit blurry.

Okay so let's get in to the specs!

    Computer parts:
ASUS GeForce 2080 Super Intel Core i7-9700K @ 4.9 GHz Turbo Corsair Vengeance RGB PRO 16 GB @ 3200MHz ASUS PRIME Z390-A Corsair CX650F / 650W / iCue-RGB Corsair H100i RGB + 2 Corsair QL-140 Fans Lian Li Lancool II All A-RGB is controlled by using Corsair Commander Pro and RGB Hub Storage:
Samsung 860 SSD 250GB Seagate Barracuda 1TB Seagate Barracuda 2TB Peripherals & accessories:
Corsair K70 RGB MK.2 Rapidfire (Cherry MX Speed) Corsair HS70 Pro Samsung Odyssey G5 27" (The other monitor is some random one my GF gave me) Logitech G PRO Wireless Corsair MM500 Mousepad Playstation 5 Controller Canon EOS M50 Camera for streaming TRUST GXT 252+ Emita Plus Microphone for streaming
Since all the GPU's were sold out where I live and you couldn't even pre-order them I had to go for the 2080 Super and not any of the 3 series. And honestly I don't really care that much since this GPU will get the job done. Maybe I'll just upgrade it in the future. The chassi isn't my taste but again they were sold out on pretty much everything which kinda sucked. No retailer I checked with had parts for an entire high-end computer so I just picked the website with the best parts.

I bought an additional 2 TB HDD since I underestimated myself and how much I would actually download. And also my God games are huge these days.

I think that's about it. I welcome any questions you guys might have. Now onto the pictures!

Hello, for sure it's not the smallest desktop ever done, but it's pretty small 🙂 ...so I put together a Raspberri pi 4b 8gb (overclocked) with an ICE Tower cooler and an RGB OLED 1.5 inch Display (128 x 128 pixel).
I designed the case in Moi3D and printed with a PRUSA  i3 MKs.
As a prototype I'm pretty happy with  the result even if the finishing of the print is not super amazing, I'm actually investigating to find ways to get a perfect finishing looking quality of the prints (not that easy with a filament printer).
Hope you like it, let me know if you have questions.

Hello LTT community! Finally upgrading from the Fx Platform. This was not my first build, though it was my first hard tubing job. Some of you may notice the slanted tubing, the first mobo I had failed and I had this Gigabyte 970A ds3p on hand. Luckily the socket location was close enough that the original tubes fit. At the time my intentions were to just get the pc working and in a year or so upgrade and redo the loop. Well its been 5 ish years since that day and the time has come!

    -R5 3600
    - Stock  AMD Wraith cooler
    -MSI B550m Mortar wifi Motherboard
    -Cougar A500 psu
    -Fractal Define C case
    -Corsair sp 120 exhaust
-black Corsair fans x2 intake (not sure on the model they came with a case)
    - Kingston and Samsung ssd (same as old build)

Moving away form liquid cooling for now. I may do a custom loop again but I specifically want to use a tower cooler. I'll be reusing the Define C case for this build with a few modifications. My goal is a "classy" aesthetic also I want to incorporate wood into this build. The top of the case has a removable panel, also there is a cut out in the bottom shroud with a removable panel. I remade these panels using mahogany and painted the rings on the corsair sp fans the match.

Waiting on motherboard and ram now.

Meganter reacted to devo93 in DeskPC build
    Hi,
just found out there's also a LTT forum. LTT really inspired me to build a PC myself when they released their Desk-PC video. I really enjoyed building and planning it and I'm quite pleased with the result. Since LTT practically taught me how to build a pc I thought I'll share it with you.

Immediately after watching the desk-PC video I knew I wanted one too so I started thinking about how I could build it and how it should look like.
Once I had a good plan in my head I started modeling all the components of the PC to figure out all the cable lengths and other important measurements.

Fortunately there's a maker space close to where I live so I had the opportunity to cnc mill all big parts out of plywood.

I also modeled and 3d printed multiple smaller parts for the PC but I don't want that post to be too long. Then it was time to test fit all the parts, put them together and sand, prime, sand and paint everything.

modeled 3d printed covers for the 200mm fans so they look the same regardless of their orientation

Sounds easy in this short summary but man it took me a long time to create all the necessary parts for my pc (cant see them here) make them all fit and learning how to use a cnc machine in the first place 😛

After all of that was done it was finally the day where everything was ready to be assembled. It was also the day I was moving to a new place. So naturally the first thing that had to be running was the pc 😉

here you can see what all the cnc milled channels are being used for. Mostly extensions since I wanted the motherboard to be in the middle of the desk.

Already looks way better with the thin wooden sheet on top.

    Aaaand done 🙂
Funny thing is that when I first wanted to turn on my pc I panicked for a moment because it didn't do anything. Turned out that I just forgot to turn on the switch on the power supply 😆

In the end I just could not resist to turn the 3d blocking of the motherboard into a highly detailed 3d model and render a couple of sequences to also test if the pc is stable throughout multiple days of 100% cpu load when overclocked.

After some crashes when rendering for longer than about 20 hours I got it dialed in and my 2700x now runs at 4.2GHz on all cores at 100% load for days (3200MHz ram).

Inspiration:  Project Odyssey first became a reality after having such a blast over Christmas with my kids playing on my personal machine with old games over emulators, fantastical 3D walking simulators, flying simulators (Pilotwings64 was my daughters first experience, we have since moved on to more detailed simulators - I love it because its a game I grew up with also!), and city building games.  They are both very inquisitive and watching them learn to navigate these environments - expressions, squeals of joy, and downright learning on their feet and overcoming obstacles is amazing - so I pulled the trigger.

Why Odyssey?  This is a throwback to the original TV consoles (Magnavox Odyssey) that set the stage for the gaming I began in the 80's.

I began sourcing the parts, at first looking at Ryzen 5000 series, but of course I ran into the same issues I read about daily here - lack of product to purchase.  I quickly tired of that game and gladly settled for Ryzen 3000.  During my parts sourcing I was honored to be contacted by ARESGAME and asked to work with their products in this build.  Below you will see the parts list, with SOME adjustments intended, in transit, or at this time still being sourced.

Case: Fractal Design Focus G ATX in black Fractal Design Focus G Mini in black (arrives in 2 days)
    Motherboard: ASRock B450m Pro4

ODD: Hitachi Blu Ray burner (to be painted black to stealth into the case)

This is going to be a clean build with a focus on extra cable management.  Depending on how the case comes apart will determine any possible paint modding.  As this is going to be my first RGB build, I am most likely wanting to keep the majority black color theme that I have going on but that will be determined after I open up the box when the mATX variant arrives.

Without further wall of text I give you the beginnings of Project Odyssey - thank you for your time looking at the Build Log and I hope you follow me as I journey through this build!

EDIT#1 1.21.21 to main post - TeamGroup has joined the build!  New memory on the way to really enhance the build and apply the final touches to the RGB.  I am blessed and excited to have been able to be sponsored by TeamGroup - let the building commence!  Unfortunately the case hasnt arrived yet.  Shows out for delivery today (pictured atm is the ATX variant I have on hand) so still a few hours to wait.  I plan on going to the shop Friday evening or Saturday to start documenting this build.  Thanks to all following my journey!

EDIT#2 1.24.21 to main post - no changes to main post sans this edit - keep scrolling in the log for the major update that occurred today!

EDIT#3 1.31.21 to main post - no changes to main post, update on RAM in transit now slated to arrive 2.3.21 and talking about my inability to paint well lol - teaser on update with color scheme.  The HDD brackets and front bezel turned out perfect.

EDIT #4 2.1.21 to main post - no changes to main post, updated receipt of RAM and some pic updates.

Since I swapped out the Sapphire R9 Fury Tri-X for the EVGA 2060 KO I am not as worried about power draw, and actually have the option to choose from the AVG750 or the AVG650.  I havent fully decided which will go in this machine yet.

    And the Brains:

Well that is all for today.  After the case arrives I will begin taking things out and progressing the build.  Any possible modding will be determined after the Fractal Mini arrives.

Please feel free to follow this post, and I look forward to my next Log update!

I've been watching LTT for a long, LONG time... well not really, but for at least 3 years. During that time I went from living in rental homes to owning and living in a fifth wheel travel trailer, so I held off on building my first PC. Once I was settled in, I decided it was time to upgrade from my 2014 MSI laptop. My space, although not insanely limited, does not lend itself well to large form factor builds with custom water loops. I opted instead for a custom cabinet mounted set up with air cooling. Components were chosen mainly based on price, compatibility, and intended use. I went with what I considered to be fairly middle of the road components as I don't do heavy online gaming or streaming. I did want a safe storage system for the multiple TBs of movies, music, photos, and personal documents I've acquired over the years and opted for a raid 6 array. I hadn't really considered posting this build anywhere so I didn't take a bunch of photos during the building process. I started with a cheapo computer case to ensure components were functional before starting any real installation. If anyone wants any additional information on specifics, I'll be more than happy to accommodate with photos and explanations. Possible issues still to be addressed are cooling (resolution for now is leaving a cabinet door open) and the low end TCL TV that came with the trailer.

At the time of posting, I am formatting the raid 6 array and the 2nd M.2 SSD is en route courtesy of Amazon.

Primary uses are light work at home, offline gaming, watching movies, and data storage. Let me know what you think/what you would do differently.

Redstone is - in my opinion - one of the coolest things about Minecraft.
I've gotten back into Minecraft last September, after not playing it for a good couple years. In the past I really wasn't into redstone at all, but now I'd say it's one of my main activities. That of course meant I watched a ton of videos, MumboJumbo's included.

I actually watch his content, so I'll keep my eye on if I see him mention the PC!
In Minecraft, when you press F3, you'll see a whole bunch of information, like your fps, coordinates in-game, etc., but also your system specs (CPU and videocard at least). Skipping through a couple of his latest videos, it doesn't seem like he has shown that, so not sure if some of his newer videos were made on this awesome PC.

It would be a true MumboJumbo PC if the wires in the PC were replaced with Restone wires!

FYI: MumboJumbo makes a whole bunch of Minecraft videos, but is probably most well known for his Redstone creation. See Redstone in Minecraft sort of as an electrical + boolean logic system. A way to create automatic doors, farms, etc.

System looks super good! Hope he mentions it in one of his videos sometime in the future
