CrazieChipmunk got a reaction from bmx6454 in Motherboard light is no longer on all other components seem to be working though including fans
oh shit lol, thanks i did resit the 24pin and didnt really think to do any others (me being a dumb ass) i just reseated the cpu 8 pin and we seem to be back up and running again. Would make sense that 8pin being loose as i had a hard time getting it in because my cooler was getting in the way

CrazieChipmunk reacted to 5x5 in Help, Psu loud after memory install
The system will always auto run fans at 100% when bottled till all sensors come online and report values. Then the fan curves kick in and it quiets down

CrazieChipmunk reacted to mariushm in What happens if PCIEcable isnt plugged correctly
Video card would not start and you'd get a message on screen saying "plug cable"
Worst case scenario, the pairs of wires that make good connection would carry the load while the poorly connected pairs would not... so the properly connected pairs of wires may be "overloaded" and overheat or something like that.

CrazieChipmunk reacted to Arrogath in 5700XT or Wait for new gen cards
Well, they finally smashed off a load of bugs so the drivers should be better now, or you can wait till June for a new nvidia card. I’m assuming 2080ti price tier isn’t on your radar so the upcoming Radeon card(s) probably aren’t worth waiting for. If you want better now just buy now, plenty of other hold over options in the used market
Assuming AMD does release a higher tier card next month you might be able to pick up a used 5700xt from an AMD fan boy

CrazieChipmunk reacted to merco in 5700XT or Wait for new gen cards
Wait a month at least imo, it's not that long.
The 5700xt will not get more expensive either over time.

CrazieChipmunk reacted to Slottr in thermal paste take off question
Just take the cooler off and clean the paste off
If you're putting more pressure down than a cooler would on the cpu then I'd be surprised
Heat it up beforehand
Twist the cooler off

unplug the hdd and turn on the pc to see if the noise is still there

CrazieChipmunk reacted to Eigenvektor in Sounds form either hard drive or psu
HDDs do make some noise during normal operation. Hopefully the noise isn't as loud as an actual woodpecker though, because that would have me worried

CrazieChipmunk reacted to minibois in whats an unsafe temp for a cpu full load
Up to 95 degrees C is fine:
https://www.amd.com/en/products/cpu/amd-ryzen-5-3600
83 degrees C is not super weird on the Ryzen 3000 CPU's. The previous Ryzen's were a bit lower temp, but this new series runs a bit warmer. But 83 degrees is totally fine (assuming you have ambient temps of around 20-30 degrees C).

CrazieChipmunk reacted to xg32 in So i Was thinking of next gen
the ps5 and next xbox will have 8/16 zen 2 cpus and something like a 5700xt in them with DXR support, so there's that too, i'd hold off on all gaming upgrades, because unlike older gen consoles, there's a good chance anything built right now could be...weaker than a 500usd console thats coming out next year (lol)

CrazieChipmunk reacted to GoldenLag in would having high volts fry my cpu
is this a manual OC or is this stock?
if its stock no worries, just update BIOS once a month to every other month in the next 6 months to get new BIOSes as Ryzen 3000 is still relativly new.

CrazieChipmunk reacted to G00fySmiley in Low in stock 5700 and 5700xt
generally speaking 2-3 months for cards to hit MSRP unless it is a monstrous increase in performance. so... for the 5700's abouit 2-3 months. they are great cards and a great value but not some new top end shiny that people with tons of cash are willign to double MSRP for, at that point they would just get a in stock 2080Ti

CrazieChipmunk reacted to Tristerin in Low in stock 5700 and 5700xt
Yup, that's where the "market can stomach" comes in - if sales decline because the market doesn't allow the price to be feasible - than they will drop it to a price that creates more black, less red, in their profit lines. No sales isn't good!

CrazieChipmunk got a reaction from Turtle Rig in should i wait or buy
ok that is fine, i play mostly single player stuff but really like having high details plus having the option for rtx doesn't hurt, but i would like to play doom eternal above 100 and other fps like overwatch i play a lot so yeah i think i may have to go for nividia purely because of the inflation of prices in the uk for amd cards thank you
-
CrazieChipmunk reacted to Turtle Rig in should i wait or buy
You will get triple digit fps and drops to double digits here and there, but you will pretty much never see 50fps or 40fps etc,,,,..... But no your FPS wont be 144fps fixed in todays AAA titles. If you don't use AA and put settings to medium, it just depends on the game and engine. CS:GO yes you will get 144fps sustained... But beauty of freesync is even tho your frame rate can drop from 100 to 75 it will still do its best to make a smooth experience for you and no jerky crap ya know.

CrazieChipmunk reacted to dDave64 in should i wait or buy
I've always followed the philosophy that if we're on the verge or a major release that it's worth the wait unless you absolutely can't. This is more of a minor thing that you'd be waiting for so I would consider going for the super card. I've heard amazing things about the cards, people generally seem to be very happy with them.

1500 MHz = 3000 MT/s for DDR memory. Everything is working fine.

CrazieChipmunk reacted to jones177 in Is VR worth it
I have a heavily modded Skyrim and Fallout 4 so it makes sense for me to do the VR versions. Without them it would not do VR at all.
I also play Elite Dangerous and X Plane 11 on a screen but find the VR experience too low res with a Rift s.
It will take a next gen headset and a next gen GPU to get the resolution up enough for me to enjoy doing simulations.
Modding Skyrim and Fallout 4 VR will keep me busy for a now but I am hoping that there will be more of the types of games that I like to play coming out soon.
If there is no killer app for you it is not worth it now.
-
CrazieChipmunk reacted to Oshino Shinobu in Is VR worth it
It seems like the majority of people that use VR use it a lot for a month or two and then basically never touch it again.
I had the Oculus Rift DK2 and did exactly that.
VR has come a long way since then, but there's still a lack of fully fledged games around for it. Most games available are still kind of sandbox or arcade type games without much of a story or progression.
VR can be fantastic if you have friends over to play and compete, but if it's only going to be you using it, I'd say it's not worth the price right now.
-
CrazieChipmunk reacted to Origami Cactus in Is VR worth it
Depends on you.
The experience it gives is definitely something else.
Also there are 3d sculpting apps for the steamvr, so you can sculpt in vr and then print the model out.
But if you have better things to put money towards do that, the vr is still pretty early in it's track, so it will be much better in a few years.

CrazieChipmunk reacted to Zando_ in THICC 5700 xt has been released
Noice! Mine were on the air coolers, 66C max alone, in SLI the top card went to 76C. Very nice cards indeed. My RVII on its EK block (tfw no heatkiller ?, my CPU is on a Heatkiller IV tho) maxes at around 43-45C under full load, hot spot hits 75C, 78C in a couple games. That's down from a 110-115C hotspot on the stock cooler so I'd say it's a marked improvement. Plus dat single slot life, did find it amusing how it's half the size of the stock card but weighs more now, lol.

CrazieChipmunk reacted to Tristerin in THICC 5700 xt has been released
TBH Ive been waiting for AIB 5700XT (or the 2080ti killer rumors go on about) - the fact they named it THICC means this would be the one I get if I go with air cooling.
