I gave it a go and seems to be holding up well. Thanks

The Ryzen calculator is an aproximation anyway. So i would suggest just trying the best speeds from the Hynix options and see if it works. If it doesnt go to the 2nd option. And so on.
The numbers those apps give out are not end all be all. Its just an indication. You still have the silicon lotery to deal with.

WhiskeyLeach reacted to Mateyyy in What would be the best air cooler for a 5800x for my build
If you want something that'll be more than adequate for your 5800X, while not being overly bulky:
https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/product/ZLtQzy/noctua-nh-u12a-6009-cfm-cpu-cooler-nh-u12a (this only comes in Noctua's traditional colour scheme at the moment though, so alternatively you could get a couple NF-F12 chromax.blacks on it and put them on instead of the NF-A12x25 fans that come with it; the advantage of the U12A is that it offers near NH-D15 or DRP4 performance, in a much smaller package)
https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/product/dMVG3C/noctua-nh-u12s-chromaxblack-55-cfm-cpu-cooler-nh-u12s-chromaxblack
https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/product/FRYLrH/be-quiet-dark-rock-4-cpu-cooler-bk021
If you don't really mind the size:
https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/product/84MTwP/noctua-nh-d15-chromaxblack-8252-cfm-cpu-cooler-nh-d15-chromaxblack
https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/product/F3gzK8/be-quiet-dark-rock-pro-4-505-cfm-cpu-cooler-bk022
Also, as a sidenote, keep in mind that the Meshify C is really not that great cooling-wise out of the box. I'd suggest picking up a couple of 140mm fans, and setting them up as intakes in the front of the case. I'd look for either Noctua NF-A14s or be quiet! Silent Wings 3 140mms.

WhiskeyLeach reacted to minibois in Returning a motherboard but redeemed the game
Contact the store.
They can do three things:
- Refuse the return
- Take the return and not care about the game
- Ask for a restocking fee, where essentially you will pay for the value of a key
What will be done depends on the store.
-
WhiskeyLeach reacted to LogicalDrm in Returning a motherboard but redeemed the game
Considering the value of the code is probably half of value of the board, they could earn a bit by asking restocking fee. As they can't sell board as new (it will be sold as B-stock), asking for price of the game breaks things even for them.
For you that code is always free extra. You don't pay more of the board, GPU etc. to receive code.

the b550 bazooka should work well with the 5800x. if it has all the ports and features you need, keep it.

It'll work fine.
The people saying you should've gone with X570... probably don't really know what they're talking about.

WhiskeyLeach reacted to geo3 in Can a 4k 144hz monitor play in 1440p/144hz?
Yes but, It won't look good though. 1080p will likely look better as it can do integer scaling.
However if you have a 20 series or newer Nvidia GPU then you can use DLSS2.0 to scale 1440p upto 4k which will to a much much better job than the displays internal scaling.

WhiskeyLeach reacted to MegaDave91 in Can a 4k 144hz monitor play in 1440p/144hz?
Interpolation will be present if you do so. If you scale it down to 1080p it will look akin to native resolution.

WhiskeyLeach reacted to spartaman64 in rtx 3080 crashing possibly due to capacitor choice
IMPORTANT NOTE: apparently the evga 3080 ftw3 has 2 mlcc and the picture on the EVGA website is a preproduction model
https://imgur.com/a/IMVFdTP
update 2: apparently some evga 3080 ftw3 have 6 spcaps and some have 4 spcaps 2 mlcc
update from jacob from evga
https://forums.evga.com/Message-about-EVGA-GeForce-RTX-3080-POSCAPs-m3095238.aspx In the buildzoid video he said they are not POSCAPs which are a specific pansonic product line they are SPCAPs which the higher end ones perform better than POSCAPs. But he agrees the mlcc caps are better for filtering and having multiple of them in parallel makes them even better. And he said he thinks we should blame nvidia instead of the board partners because nvidia has to approve all of the boards and they allowed the board partners to do this. Also he noticed some of the cards with mlccs cheaped out on the other SPCAPs.
Der8auer replaced the spcaps with mlccs and it solved the crashing problem which confirms that it is at least a major contributing factor.

https://www.igorslab.de/en/what-real-what-can-be-investigative-within-the-crashes-and-instabilities-of-the-force-rtx-3080-andrtx-3090/
Yikes this launch is sort of a mess. If you are experiencing crashing try underclocking a little and if you are buying a card look out for the ones with bad cap layouts. Idk why nvidia felt the need to rush this launch by this extent. Also sort of strange manufacturers would put low quality caps in a high end gpu and how much do they even save on that?
Edit: I looked up how much they cost and apparently they cost $0.00293 per unit if you buy them in bulk of 10,000+ ...
so you need 10 to replace an SPCAP and theres 6 SPCAPS so thats 60*$0.00293= $0.1758 ... at most they are saving 1.758* cents per card WTF
and actually thats if they replaced all the SPCAPs with MLCCs they only need 2 so they are saving $0.0058

WhiskeyLeach reacted to Jurrunio in Zotac 3080 dilemma
I disagree with this being a good reason because this statement only compares PCB designs. Trinity card has worse PCB but better cooler than FE at the same price, while others that are being reviewed so far (MSI Gaming X Trio and Asus TUF OC) cost more.
The Trinity simply doesnt boost as high in clock speed compared to FE. Just overclock it a bit and that difference will be all gone. My guess on the cause is that the Trinity's less efficient VRM makes it hit the same 320w card power limit at lower GPU power draw. In other words the difference is something you can compensate.
If that's what you want to do, sure. Never recommend chasing launch period stock anyway

Warzone won't perform great on that cpu either way but a gpu upgrade would be pretty nice. Also 8gb of ram is just good enough for warzone as long as nothing else is open.
-
WhiskeyLeach reacted to boggy77 in Helping a mate
yeah get another 8gb of ram to enable dual channel and depending on the budget, a gpu. cheapest decent option is a rx570.
